Arup’s Toronto / Ottawa office is seeking a Senior Physical Security Consultant with experience leading risk-based physical security system design (e.g., video surveillance and access control) for buildings and infrastructure, from concept through construction administration, including site installation verification, testing, and commissioning. The successful candidate will also have experience with, and a working knowledge of, physical security threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments (TVRA). This role requires experience leading a team to deliver projects on schedule and within budget, including supervising and mentoring junior staff, as well as an interest in business development and bid/proposal development.

The opportunity:
- Reporting to the America’s Security & Risk Leader, you would be responsible for leading Arup’s security offering in Canada.
- Resourcing and project management of a team of physical security consultants and engineers working on multiple design and construction projects simultaneously that may be in different phases, including but not limited to data centers, airports, rail, and infrastructure.
- Support the growth of the Security and Risk business, including engaging in business development activities such as establishing relationships with clients and engagement in industry, identifying work opportunities for the wider team, writing bid/proposals and driving technical innovation and workflow improvements.
- Responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of the physical security design, keeping to scope, schedule, and budgets on projects, while achieving targeted profits.
- Determine the security strategy and set the direction on the development of concepts for security systems that mitigates the security threats and risks of a project.
- Collaborate with others, both internally within Arup and externally with clients and other design team members, to ensure all aspects of the security system design is meeting client expectations, coordinated with other design teams, such as architecture, electrical and communications
- Oversee and provide technical review of the preparation of drawings and specifications for the procurement and installation of security systems.
- Be responsible for analyzing and responding to contractor’s requests for information, shop drawings and submittals, as well as change order requests.
- Conduct field verification of the contractor’s installation, including testing and commissioning of physical security systems.
- Arup works on projects around the world and country; travel to project sites for project meetings or construction administration activities is expected to be local to the Toronto area, as well as regionally within Ontario and Quebec and in some cases may include cross country, or internationally.
Is this role right for you?
Required skills:
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in practice of design and field related activities, including at least 5 years in a lead security consultant/engineer role and at least 4 years in a management role
- Demonstrable experience in Revit and/or AutoCAD.
- Management of physical security project scopes through design delivery and construction administration, on budget and schedule.
- Ability to adapt resource and project plans through expected and unexpected changes such as staffing, scope/change orders, and guidance from internal leaders using strong communication and organization skills.
- Holds, or is working towards a relevant certification such as: Physical Security Professional (PSP) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) via ASIS International, and/or Professional Engineer (PEng).
- Holds, or has the qualification to successfully apply for a security consulting license with the Bureau de la Sécurité Privée.
- Holds, or has the ability to obtain Canada Secret Clearance.
Preferred skills:
- Four-year degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or that of an equivalent and appropriate field.
- Demonstrated experience sourcing and winning projects in a consulting environment including with public and private clients in Canada, preferably in Ontario.
- Strong client engagement skills, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary and client meetings through the development of security objectives, communicate risks, and development of controls.
- Engagement in external industry organizations such as ASIS, and/or contribution to development of industry standards and guidelines.
- Understanding of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and how to apply them in the built environment
- Understanding of a threat, vulnerability and risk assessment (TVRA) process
- Use of construction administration software, such as PlanGrid, Procore, FacilityGrid, and BIM360
- Ability to read and speak in French.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $x to $x per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
