As part of the Climate and Sustainability Services business, Arup’s Environment team lead and deliver Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), working with our clients across Arup’s technical disciplines on nationally significant projects. These include renewable energy projects such offshore wind farms, power station decarbonisation programmes, critical infrastructure upgrades including the electricity grid and regional water infrastructure upgrades and mass transit projects at city and region scale. We are seeking Senior Environmental Consultants who are mid- career, have a curious mindset, want to deliver technical excellence, and to grow in a team that takes on and leads complex environmental projects. All to help embed environment-led design and sustainability into the major projects that we deliver for our clients.

The Opportunity

The position is for a Senior Environmental Consultant based in our growing Glasgow or Edinburgh Environment teams. The role focuses on delivering all stages of EIA and consenting for major infrastructure projects, predominantly in renewable energy, decarbonisation and water infrastructure across Scotland and the UK. Our clients range from renewable energy developers to public sector authorities, spanning both global organisations and emerging teams. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of environmental, planning, engineering and urban design specialists, supported by Arup’s global skills networks and subject matter leaders who provide technical leadership and share best practice across regions. This offers a strong platform to learn, grow and flourish in delivering industry-leading environment and sustainability consultancy services.

You will undertake and lead environmental management and assessment work. This will focus on EIA Coordination, managing specialist environmental teams and supporting team leaders across Arup’s offices in delivering major projects.

With support from team leaders, you will be responsible for:

Leading the coordination and preparation of environmental reports including EIA screening, scoping, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and Environmental Statements. Leading and coordinating the review of technical inputs for alignment with project details and EIA compliance.

Shaping environmental design by applying environmental-led design principles to our projects. Leading and liaising with project teams both internal and external. Communicating and liaising with clients. Contributing to bids and presentations

Is this role right for you?

You will be mid-career, motivated and enthusiastic, with demonstrable environmental consultancy experience and possess the following knowledge, skills and attributes:

· Education to degree level (preferably to master’s level) in a science, environmental or environment-related field, such as environmental management, geography, earth sciences.

· Membership of a relevant professional institution (such as the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP)), with Full membership or demonstrable pathway towards chartership (e.g. Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) Desirable.

· A range of experience in environmental management and assessment, which could include leading the co-ordination of EIAs, supporting the coordination of major EIAs, working with or leading teams of technical specialists or as an environmental topic specialist leading EIA preparation.

· Awareness of environmental planning legislation, and experience of applying legislation, policy and guidance in respect to EIA. Strong project management skills.
