Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world
The Senior Hydrogeologist (Resources – Mining) is a key technical leadership role within the Australasian Resources business, responsible for delivering technical excellence in mining hydrogeology while supporting strategic growth, client engagement, and market expansion. Acting as a recognised technical authority in groundwater and mine water management, this role contributes across the full mining project lifecycle—from early-stage option studies and feasibility through to detailed design, construction support, operations, and closure. The role leads and reviews complex technical workstreams, including groundwater investigations, conceptual and numerical modelling, mine dewatering, water balance development, impact assessment, and regulatory approvals, ensuring all outcomes are robust, defensible, and aligned with client and regulatory expectations

The Opportunity

  • Lead hydrogeology business development across the mining sector, identifying and securing strategic opportunities aligned with growth objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and governance in groundwater and mine water management, ensuring high-quality, fit-for-purpose outcomes across projects.
  • Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, enhancing market presence through industry engagement and representation.
  • Deliver and oversee complex mining projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to achieve outcomes aligned to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Mentor and develop team members while strengthening capability through strategic workforce planning, recruitment, and knowledge sharing.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

  • Tertiary qualification in hydrogeology, geology, environmental engineering, or a related discipline, ideally with postgraduate specialisation in hydrogeology.
  • Extensive experience delivering hydrogeological services within the mining sector, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in groundwater investigations, conceptual and numerical modelling, and mine water management (including dewatering and water balance development).
  • Proven experience supporting mining projects across the full lifecycle, from feasibility through to operations and closure.
  • Sound knowledge of mining-related environmental approvals, groundwater impact assessments, and relevant regulatory frameworks (Australia and ideally New Zealand).
