The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior AV designer to join our growing Acoustics, Audio Visual and Theatre practice, delivering multidisciplinary audio-visual design across arts, sports, commercial, and experiential business areas globally. Our team operates at the intersection of technical design, creative industries, and building design, contributing to projects ranging from performing arts venues and cultural masterplanning to workplace and educational environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening technical delivery, leading projects, and mentoring junior staff.

The role offers the opportunity to:

  • Lead AV systems design and multidisciplinary project delivery, including technical design, planning, documentation, site engagement, and commissioning.
  • Contribute to work winning, project management, and strategic growth, supporting engagement with new and existing clients
  • Work within a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment, interfacing with architecture, building engineering, planning, lighting, IT, and other specialist teams.
  • Shape experiential and technology-driven environments, combining audio, video, and spatial design to deliver client-focused solutions.
  • Develop and mentor junior team members, contributing to overall team capability and quality.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for a candidate with:

  • Strong background in audio-visual systems design and planning, with proven experience delivering AV projects within multidisciplinary teams across commercial, cultural, sports, or experiential environments.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and client engagement skills, with the ability to contribute to work winning, proposals, and operate credibly in both corporate and creative industry contexts.
  • Competence in technical design tools, including 2D/3D platforms (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD) and audio system modelling software (e.g. EASE, CATT), combined with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working across multiple sectors and client types, with demonstrated creativity and client-focused problem solving in experience-led or complex AV environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development.
