Working with the Resource, Waste, Water and Urban Services teams, the Engineer will support the preparation and delivery of waste management, resource recovery and process-based projects in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. The role is suited to engineers interested in waste management policy and strategy, process design, treatment systems and real-world implementation, providing technical and field support to senior staff and contributing to feasibility studies, option assessments and advisory assignments.

The Opportunity:

  • Contribute to solid waste management projects in the Philippines and other parts of APA
  • Required input will vary on a project basis, but is likely to include:
    • Estimating the quantity and composition waste (organics, recyclables, residuals) in the project catchment area
    • Proposing separation and collection strategies for the development or area;
    • Evaluating and proposing resource and waste management infrastructure at a city or jurisdiction level;
    • Preparing waste management plans,
    • WACS - identifying requirement for WACS, supervising WACS via a subcontractor, interpreting results for the project
  • Supports preparation of feasibility studies, technical diagnostics and advisory assignments in solid waste management, resource recovery and treatment systems.
  • Undertakes data collection, desk-based research and fieldwork, including site visits, operational reviews and discussions with operators and technology providers

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Civil or related discipline).
  • 3+ years of experience in Solid Waste Management, demonstrating understanding of waste and recycling strategies and technologies, and of interactions with circular economy, is preferred
  • PRC-licensed Engineer or eligible to obtain PRC license is preferred.
  • Relevant experience of process engineering, treatment systems or industrial facilities; field or plant-based experience is an advantage.
  • Experience or academic exposure to thermal treatment, waste-to-energy, combustion, gasification, industrial processes or similar systems is and advantage.
  • Familiarity with waste management, typical practices, industry approaches and recycling regulations in the Philippines. Interest in solid waste management, resource recovery and circular economy
