Senior Electrical Design Engineer — Data Centres
Istanbul, Türkiye
Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Istanbul.
Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment.
We are a global consultancy with extensive technical and advisory expertise. Our data centre team combines deep technical specialism with Arup's global reach delivering mission-critical infrastructure that powers the digital world, responsibly and resiliently.
The Opportunity
Data centres are among the most technically demanding and rapidly evolving building types in the world. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our Istanbul office and work on-site, embedded within the team of a major data centre client, one of the most strategically significant relationships in Arup's rapidly growing global data centre practice. In this role, you will play a central role in designing and delivering the electrical infrastructure for state-of-the-art data centres across Türkiye and internationally. This is not a conventional office-based position: you will be Arup's technical representative on the ground, working directly alongside the client's team and bringing Arup's engineering expertise into the heart of their delivery process.
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer - DC at Arup, you will:
Lead electrical design for mission-critical data centre projects, undertaking electrical design elements across all project stages, from concept through to construction support, for medium- to large-scale data centre commissions in Türkiye and internationally.
Manage design deliverables, overseeing the production of drawings, coordinating electrical reports and specifications, and reviewing outputs prior to submission to ensure accuracy and quality.
Collaborate across disciplines, working closely with general contractors, architects, mechanical engineers, and project management teams to ensure technical coherence and seamless project delivery.
Supervise and develop others, coordinating the work of engineers within your team, supporting junior members in their technical growth, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing design environment.
Engage clients with confidence, attending project meetings, building strong client relationships, and delivering tailored solutions that respond to each client's operational and business needs.
Does this role inspire you?
We value candidates who bring a combination of the following. If you don't meet every single point but believe you'd thrive in this role, we'd still love to hear from you.
Academic background: Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional qualification and experience.
Professional experience: Minimum 10 years in electrical engineering, with extensive experience in data centre design and a proven track record on medium- to large-scale projects.
Data centre expertise: Demonstrated ability to design and deliver electrical engineering solutions for mission-critical facilities, with a strong understanding of data centre design principles and the ability to balance competing engineering priorities across complex projects.
Leadership and delivery: Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams; able to manage competing priorities and consistently deliver to quality and programme expectations.
Client and stakeholder skills: Proven ability to develop and sustain successful client relationships, communicating design solutions clearly and confidently to technical and non-technical audiences.
Communication: Strong professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
