Shape a meaningful future at Arup in Berlin

Arup has decades of experience in designing resilient cities. We are increasingly using data and digital tools and are looking for support for our Berlin team in delivering a diverse range of exceptional projects with a focus on “Nature+”.

Nature+ is our approach that places nature at the centre of urban planning. Biodiversity is becoming increasingly important because it strengthens the ecological stability and resilience of cities, supports residents’ wellbeing and creates economic benefits. From rewilding and animal-aided design to sponge city concepts and heat resilience, our goal is to work with cities to create more livable urban spaces.

Would you like to work with our multidisciplinary team to develop solutions to the urgent challenges of our time? How can cities and regions prepare for climate change? How do we design cities in a participatory and inclusive way? How can we transform grey spaces into green and blue oases for people and the environment? And what technologies and data can we use to advance the mobility and energy transition?

The Opportunity

As a Landscape Architect, you will work at our Berlin office as part of the Cities team. Together with our multidisciplinary team, you will help design resilient, liveable and future-ready cities and open spaces. Flexible, self-organised working is partly possible remotely.

As a Landscape Architect at Arup, you will:

You will support us on challenging national and international projects, including:

· Preparing feasibility studies, site analyses and landscape planning concepts

· Working on concept, approval and detailed design for open spaces

· Developing resilient, climate-adapted and biodiversity-enhancing open space solutions, including sponge city, rainwater management and greening concepts

· Coordinating with internal disciplines, clients, authorities and external planning partners

· Contributing creative and pragmatic solutions to optimise project workflows, design quality and sustainable project outcomes

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for:

· A completed degree in landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning or a comparable discipline

· Several years of experience working on landscape architecture and open space projects, particularly in design stages 3 to 8

· Sound experience in concept, approval and detailed design, as well as coordination with authorities, clients and other project stakeholders

· Very good knowledge of AutoCAD and confident use of graphic and 3D software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Rhino or comparable applications

· Experience in preparing bills of quantities, tender documents and procurement of construction works would be an advantage

· An interest in actively supporting business development and proposal processes

· Enthusiasm for good design, technical details and sustainable, climate-adapted planning

· Excellent German and good English language skills

Our Benefits

· Flexible working: The option to choose between full-time or part-time working models, up to 3 days per week working from home and up to 20 days per year working from another country.

· Personal development: Mentoring programme, various training opportunities such as language courses in German and English, and individual development options through Arup University.

· Mobility & sport: Internal sports activities, a mobility budget for public transport, a subsidised company membership in the Urban Sports network and Swapfiets bike rental.

· International opportunities: The opportunity to apply for short- or longer-term assignments in other Arup offices around the world.

· Profit sharing: Twice-yearly profit distributions that are not based on individual employee performance, but on Arup’s global performance.

· Wellbeing & family: Company pension scheme, occupational disability insurance, childcare subsidy of up to €150 per month, and in Berlin we can also offer a childcare place with our cooperation partner if required.
