Senior Sustainability Consultant

Copenhagen, Denmark

Shape a future with purpose at Arup in Copenhagen.

Turn sustainability ambitions into practical decisions across infrastructure and the built environment.

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our Environment, Climate and Sustainability team works across major projects in Denmark and the wider European region. We connect sustainability strategy with design, procurement and delivery, helping clients make measurable progress on carbon, circularity, materials and resource efficiency.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Sustainability Consultant to strengthen our growing team in Copenhagen. This is an opportunity to take a visible role in shaping and delivering sustainability services across complex building, infrastructure and industrial projects.

You will work closely with clients, project managers, designers and technical specialists to translate sustainability objectives into clear requirements, informed decisions and practical implementation. Alongside project delivery, you will help develop client relationships, prepare proposals and build repeatable approaches in areas such as circular economy, material reuse, embodied carbon and life cycle assessment.

As a Senior Sustainability Consultant at Arup, you will:

  • Lead sustainability workstreams on multidisciplinary projects, taking responsibility for scope, programme, quality, coordination and client communication.

  • Develop and implement practical sustainability strategies covering circular economy, material reuse, embodied carbon, life cycle assessment and resource efficiency.

  • Integrate sustainability requirements into design, procurement, tendering and construction processes, making trade offs and decisions clear to clients and project teams.

  • Build trusted relationships with clients and collaborators, contribute to proposals and help identify opportunities to grow our sustainability services in Denmark and across Europe.

  • Support knowledge sharing and capability development within the team, drawing on Arup’s wider international network of sustainability, engineering and design specialists.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for someone who is motivated by turning sustainability goals into practical project outcomes and who enjoys working across technical, commercial and organisational boundaries. We also value:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience delivering sustainability services within infrastructure, buildings, construction or industrial projects.

  • Strong knowledge in several of the following areas: circular economy, material reuse, life cycle assessment, embodied carbon, resource efficiency and sustainable procurement.

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and integrating sustainability requirements through design, tendering and delivery.

  • Strong client-facing and communication skills, including proposal development, workshop facilitation and the ability to influence project decisions.

  • A relevant degree in engineering, sustainability, environmental science or a related discipline, together with professional fluency in Danish and English. Desirable chartered professional.
