The Opportunity

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with experience in power transmission and distribution to support the design and delivery of HV/EHV infrastructure projects. The role will involve working as part of multidisciplinary teams on substations, cable systems and wider power network projects, with opportunities to develop technical expertise and progress towards professional registration.

In this role, you will support the delivery of HV and EHV electrical engineering projects, contributing to the design of substations, cable systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. You will be involved in preparing and reviewing a range of engineering deliverables, including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, cable calculations, earthing designs, protection and control schemes, and technical reports.

The role requires the application of relevant UK and international electrical standards, engineering best practice, and the use of industry-standard software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, or similar tools. Depending on project requirements, you may also undertake power system studies and technical analyses.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate with civil, structural, and mechanical engineers to deliver integrated design solutions. You will also support the preparation of technical specifications, tender documentation, bid evaluations, and the review of supplier and contractor submissions.

As your experience develops, you will take increasing ownership of defined design packages, contribute to technical assurance and design review activities, engage with clients and key stakeholders, and support the successful delivery of projects to agreed quality, programme, and budget requirements. Site visits and support during project delivery may also form part of your responsibilities.

Is this role right for you?

We are seeking the below skills and knowledge:

• BEng/MEng or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical Power Systems or a related discipline.
• Relevant engineering experience in a similar role within the power or electrical engineering sector.
• Experience working on electrical infrastructure, power networks, utilities or comparable engineering projects.
• Understanding of HV electrical systems and fundamental power engineering principles.
• Ability to produce calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Good analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Desirable:

• Experience of 132 kV–400 kV transmission infrastructure, including substations or cable systems.
• Experience with one or more of PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP, SKM, CYMCAP, CDEGS, AutoCAD, MicroStation or Revit.
• Experience within an engineering consultancy environment.
• Working towards CEng (or IEng), for example through the IET.
