Arup provides engineering design, planning, and consulting services relating to the built environment to a broad range of local and global clients. It has over 10,000 staff in 100+ offices in 42 countries. The firm is active in many fields including building engineering design, civil and infrastructure engineering design, planning, and business consulting. The firm is best known for its innovative, high-quality, technically demanding engineering design work most recently seen in the Beijing Olympic (Birds Nest) Stadium and (Water Cube) Swimming Halls, the new CCTV Headquarters (Beijing), and the new California Academy of Science building in San Francisco. Founded in 1946 with an initial focus on structural engineering, Arup first came to the world’s attention with the structural design of the Sydney Opera House, followed by its work on the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Arup has since grown into a truly multidisciplinary organisation. Most recently, its work for the Singapore Sports Hub has reaffirmed its reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs that reinvent the built environment.
