SENIOR ASSOCIATE POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Senior Associate will be a member of the BCRE Finance team and will be responsible for accounting and reporting oversight for a collection of direct real estate investments, as well as providing support for fund level accounting and reporting . Direct real estate investments include a wide range of asset sectors including life sciences / lab space, senior housing, self-storage, industrial - infill, medical office, multi-family, media / content space, etc.

This individual will be the finance and accounting contact for the investment team and will be expected to provide financial reporting insight on their assigned real estate investments. The Senior Associate will provide oversight and guidance to the accounting professionals who provide reporting information to the BCRE Finance team, including but not limited to: oversight of capital activity, review of monthly property accounting packages, review of quarterly fair value reporting packages, and direct involvement in the investment valuation and budgeting process.

This individual will work on the monthly, quarterly and annual accounting period closes for the real estate properties and funds, with additional emphasis on the quarterly and annual fair value reporting cycles. This process requires in-depth analysis and understanding of the real estate investments, including the documentation of significant matters on an ongoing basis.

The responsibilities of the Senior Associate will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensuring proper accounting and reporting for a collection of real estate investments on a monthly and quarterly basis, including review of quarterly promote and management fee calculations

  • Engaging and communicating directly with property and joint venture operators on a regular basis to discuss property operations and accounting conclusions

  • Organizing the quarterly valuation process for all real estate property investments, including the coordination and analysis of internal valuation reviews and external appraisals

  • Coordinating with the fund administrator on a variety of tasks, including the set-up of future real estate investments and the quarterly and annual financial statement review process

  • Interacting with and supporting the BCRE team regarding portfolio investments and finance related issues

  • Providing oversight to the BCRE Finance Associates on tasks, including performing a weekly cash availability analysis and evaluating loan drawdowns and repayments

  • Executing and reviewing capital activity transactions and ensuring completeness and accuracy

  • Reviewing property and investment budget submissions and investigating budget to actual variances

  • Working with the BCRE team to coordinate the annual audit, annual tax and quarterly REIT compliance, providing information as requested and maintaining audit reports throughout the year

  • Maintaining the integrity of portfolio accounting systems and general ledger records

  • Analyzing and researching current industry and accounting guidance and its applicability to the real estate portfolio and the accounting and reporting process

  • Participating in special projects and duties as assigned, including support of BCRE’s operational due diligence process and regulatory reporting process among other initiatives

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

We are actively seeking candidates with the following skills and qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA designation is strongly preferred

  • Two to four years of relevant accounting experience within the real estate industry (preferably Big 4 public accounting experience and/or experience working at a real estate investment manager)

  • Proficiency with real estate investment accounting/industry issues, with a firm understanding of real estate valuation, property operations, and financial reporting matters

  • General understanding of the tax aspects of private real estate investments

  • Knowledge and demonstrated interest of financial markets and products

  • Proficiency in Yardi is preferred, but not required

  • Excellent communication skills (email and verbal) plus demonstrated confidence and ability to communicate with all levels of management

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines

  • Must be extremely detail oriented and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and self-motivation
