Control Business Partner

Join us at Barclays as a Controls Business Partner. In this role, you will be aligned to a designated portfolio of Businesses, Functions, or Risk Categories to provide input, guidance, and risk management expertise across the Controls environment. You will provide clear articulation of the risk and control landscapes, including the ability to demonstrate an understanding of control requirements for relevant internal Barclays and external regulatory policies.
This will include (but is not limited to): Controls, Issues, Risk Events, and Audit guidance; guidance on Policies and Standards; and the oversight and management of risk. In this role, you will act as the point of coordination and syndication of all Control Services, ensuring consistency and quality delivery of the Controls Strategy, Control Frameworks, improvement initiatives, and capabilities across each Business, Function, or Risk Category, while also developing and maintaining relationships with senior colleagues and stakeholders, with the ability to effectively challenge risk and control decisions when needed.
To be successful in the role of a Controls Business Partner you should have:
- Strong ability to influence at senior management level and apply judgement to balance risk versus business interest, whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and standards.
- Strong understanding of, and knowledge of, aspects of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), Operational Risk Framework (ORF), and Barclays Control Framework (BCF).
- Experience working in a control-related role or team, with the ability to demonstrate a risk management mindset.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.

This role will be based out of Knutsford.
Purpose of the role
To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the banks internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the banks operational, financial, and reputational risk.
Accountabilities
- Knowledge of business areas, products, processes and platforms to be able to assess risk
- Collaboration with various stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
- Identification and investigation of potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations.
- Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
- Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
- Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.
Assistant Vice President Expectations
- To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
- Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
- Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
- Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
- Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
