Embark on a transformative journey as a Senior Scheme Relationship Manager in the Global Payment Networks (GPN) team at Barclays. The GPN team works alongside key business units across Barclays and is responsible for managing the interactions with the Payment Schemes, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and UnionPay. This role will be working predominantly with the UK Corporate team.

As payments evolve, you will have the opportunity to shape business strategy and the relationship Barclays has with the Payment Schemes and will have responsibility over a wide range of important initiatives related to GPN’s 3 key pillars: i) Strengthen Foundations, ii) Creating Capacity and iii) Accelerating Business Growth.

To be successful as a Senior Scheme Relationship Manager in Global Payment Networks, you should have:

  • Strong leadership experience (minimum AVP level), to act as a senior member of the GPN team.
  • Relationship management experience ideally working with or in the Schemes e.g. Visa, Mastercard, Amex
  • Contract negotiation experience.
  • Strong understanding of the evolving payment scheme landscape, outside of just the traditional payment networks – such as FinTech providers.
  • Strong Analytical skills including strong Excel skills.
  • Strong presentation skills including ability to articulate key messages via PowerPoint.
  • Problem solving/ability.

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Enterprise management experience.
  • Project management experience.

This role will be based in Northampton, with a hybrid working model of working a minimum of 2/3 days per week in the office.

Purpose of the role

To establish and nurture profitable partnerships that contribute to the bank's growth and strategic objectives, by acting as liaison between the bank and its external partners, working to create mutually beneficial collaborations.

Accountabilities

  • Execution of market research activities to identify potential partners whose offerings and target markets meet the established criteria for selection, considers industry, experience and service quality, and ensuring that they contribute to the bank's strategic objectives through the alignment of partnership initiatives.
  • Assessment of the financial stability, reputation, and technological capabilities of potential partners to ensure they meet the bank's criteria for collaboration.
  • Collaboration with legal teams to support the development and negotiation process of agreements which clearly define the scope of collaboration, revenue sharing models, service levels, risk allocation and responsibility for each party.
  • Collaboration with internal teams and partnering teams to support the smooth integration of products and services, and the development of joint marketing/sales campaigns to enhance customer reach and experience across both organisations.
  • Evaluation of key performance indicators to measure the success of the partnership, identify areas for improvement, and make adjustments as needed.
  • Relationship management of their counterparts at partner organisations, fostering trust and open dialogue to address any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Internal consultations, sharing their market insights and industry knowledge with relevant departments within the bank.
