Join us as a "Control Tester" within the Controls Testing – Risk function where you are responsible for providing independent control assurance across key Principal Risks.

The team covers control testing for Financial and Non‑Financial Risks such as Credit, Market, Capital & Treasury, Model Risk, Climate, and Operational Risk across Barclays Bank UK, Barclays International, and BX.

Key Accountabilities

  • Primarily support Model Risk controls testing end‑to‑end (planning, execution, reporting), while contributing to testing across other Principal Risks as required.

  • Serve as the day‑to‑day contact for Model Risk stakeholders (e.g., Model Owners, Model Governance), coordinating scope, evidence and remediation, and sharing thematic insights across risk types.

  • Additionally provide support in building and maintain a risk‑based annual control testing plan that covers relevant controls across Credit, Market, Capital & Treasury, Model, Climate and Operational Risks for the applicable legal entities. Align the plan to the Risk and Control Self‑Assessment (RCSA) process and the Barclays Control Framework.

  • Support the design, enhancement and consistent application of the Controls Testing methodology (planning, sampling, fieldwork, documentation, rating and reporting) across risk types and legal entities.

  • Drive the execution of testing engagements end‑to‑end: scoping, walkthroughs, design effectiveness (DEA), operating effectiveness testing (OET), issue identification, and tracking through to closure.

  • Monitor delivery against agreed KPIs (e.g., coverage, timeliness, quality, issue closure), managing to available capacity and escalating risks to plan where needed.

  • Review testing workpapers and reports; challenge assumptions and conclusions on control effectiveness. Partner with First Line of Defence and Risk verticals, operating as a Second Line Controls Testing function.

  • Instill a culture of high‑quality, error‑free outputs (test reports, MI, action‑closure templates, incremental testing outputs). Maintain accurate records of controls tested, issues, actions, and recommendations.

  • Advise on continuous improvement of control assurance processes, standards, templates, and tooling to strengthen efficiency and consistency.

  • Produce and socialise timely, accurate Controls Testing management information across risk types; ensure data quality and integrity for governance and committee reporting.

  • Represent the Second Line Controls Testing function in relevant forums and across the Lines of Defence.

  • Promote a strong risk and control culture, sharing thematic insights and good practices across teams.

  • Provide day‑to‑day coaching and developmental feedback to direct reports; support onboarding, resource planning and capability building.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels and locations to deliver consistent, high‑quality outcomes and service.

To be a successful Control Tester, you should have experience with:

  • Able to work independently and as part of global/virtual teams.

  • Proven experience of Controls Testing in any Risk discipline and prior team‑management exposure.

  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement and problem‑solving in a fast‑paced, changing environment.

  • Ability to identify and sequence critical, high‑priority activities and adjust priorities for self and others.

  • Confident, articulate communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust.

  • Strong control and service delivery mindset, with a clear appreciation of robust governance and control environments.

  • Line‑management experience in managing and developing others.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • GRAD / Master’s Degree or equivalent

  • Proven experience in Risk/Audit/Internal Controls Testing

  • Expertise across Microsoft applications i.e. Excel, Excel macros

  • Knowledge of programming languages e.gs. SQL, Python, Co-Pilot etc.

  • Proven experience in risk and control testing or internal controls within a major banking/financial services organisation.

  • Clear understanding of the components of an effective control environment and hands‑on experience of controls testing in at least one Principal Risk discipline.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret evidence, identify issues, and work with others to shape pragmatic solutions.

The Job Location of this role is Noida.

Purpose of the role

To partner with the bank, to provide independent insurance on control processes and advise on improvements to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls framework.

Accountabilities

  • Collaboration across the bank to maintain a satisfactory, robust, and efficient control environment through the execution of ad-hoc assessments and testing on the design and operational effectiveness of the internal controls, aligned to control policies and standards.

  • Development of detailed test plans and procedures to identify weaknesses in internal controls and other initiatives aligned to the bank’s control framework to mitigate any potential risks and issues, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations, potential losses, and reputational impact.

  • Communication of key findings and observations to the relevant stakeholders and business units to improve overall control efficiency and provide corrective actions to senior managers. Collaboration with other control professionals to resolve complex issues and ensure consistent testing methodologies across the bank.

  • Development of a knowledge centre containing detailed documentation of control assessments, testing on design and operational effectiveness of procedures, findings, and the distribution of material on internal controls to train and upskill colleagues within the bank.
