GTSM - Site Reliability Engineer - CB&P ensures the availability of services that help Barclays support and protect the global economy. Powering Barclays, pioneering new GTSM encompasses all Service Management Technology teams across Barclays UK, Functions, Group Controls, Cards and Payments, Corporate Banking, Markets, and Risk, Finance, and Treasury (RFT).

GTSM provides a ‘follow the sun’ support coverage, across applications and infrastructure for Barclays businesses, customers, colleagues and stakeholders covering the entire production technology ecosystem. It is a critical function in the bank’s efforts to become an ‘always on’ bank through maturing the Service Management and Resilience capabilities

Financial Crime – is part of GTSM and it cater the regulatory services like Customers Due Diligence, Screenings, Transaction Monitoring and other analytical platforms. Many of these applications’ regulatory compliance, are client facing applications and have users base globally. Support team operates from Pune and covers global application support with 24x7 L1 support and L2 function with Follow-The-Sun model. Level 2 is GTSM - Site Reliability Engineer - CB&P roles with accountabilities mentioned below but not restricted to:

To be successful as a GTSM - Site Reliability Engineer - CB&P, you should have experience with:

  • Must be able to provide effective production support with rapid response to incidents and escalated user queries
  • Must demonstrate the ability to resolve problems, escalate issues, clearly communicate with the users and other teams, and effectively manage priorities and expectations.
  • Participate in Major Incident Management calls across various component teams to help identify the root cause of the incidents and resolve the incident thereafter.
  • Should be flexible working in shifts as per the requirement, this role also requires the candidate to do weekend support on ad-hoc basis and during releases.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Operational efficiency around application support space.
  • Able to communicate to senior stakeholders from various teams, RTB, BTB, Compliance and other project areas.

Some of Highly Valued Skills may include:

  • Experience of Linux/Unix experience and conversant with UNIX commands for deployment, automation and housekeeping.
  • Experience on Java Applications, Oracle, SQL (PLQSP/MySQL) and RDBMS with exposure to writing queries, tuning concepts, data analysis etc.
  • Experience of at least two of the Middleware technologies amongst JBOSS Apache Tomcat, Glassfish.
  • Experience on Microservices and containerized (OpenShift/APIs) and public cloud technologies (AWS / Azure).
  • Experience of monitoring tools AppDynamics and/or ITRS and/or observe and scheduling Tools – TWS and/or Autosys.
  • Experience on CI/CD (Jenkins, Gitlab), Kafka, Kibana/eSaaS .
  • Skills of any programming languages (like ML, AI/GenAI, Shell, Java, Python) will be preferred.

Purpose of the role

To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through them.

Accountabilities

  • Availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
  • Resolution, analysis and response to system outages and disruptions, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
  • Development of tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload, increasing efficiency, and improving system resilience.
  • Monitoring and optimisation of system performance and resource usage, identify and address bottlenecks, and implement best practices for performance tuning.
  • Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, and work closely with other teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
