Our Service Unit Global Intellectual Property is one of the biggest inhouse IP units in Germany. We are responsible for all services relating to patents, trademarks, trade secrets, plant variety protection, copyrights, designs and IP Intelligence, as well as all IP-contracts. We are a global team servicing the entire BASF group and work in close alliance with the operating business units as well as with the research and technology platforms. In this way we create a basis for future business success and actively influence BASF's competitive situation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You are an IP Counsel who wants to put innovations for climate neutrality into effective IP assets and to create business value? Then join our team! Our multidisciplinary and international team supports BASF’s technology transformation to climate neutrality. BASF’s innovation pipeline ranges from CO2 abatement and electrification to employing recycled or biogenic feedstock in large scale petrochemical processes. Your responsibilities will focus around recycled and biogenic feedstocks and their transformation in petrochemical processes.

  • In your role as IP Counsel you actively shape BASF’s IP position by consulting business units and innovation teams on value creation through IP.
  • Your core tasks comprise identifying patentable ideas, building and maintaining patent portfolios and exploiting these patent portfolios for value creation.
  • You are also going to evaluate patent landscapes and together with strategy and technology experts derive and implement IP measures according to business needs (e.g. licensing strategies).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or process engineering
  • experience in process control technology is an advantage
  • qualified as European and/or German Patent Attorney
  • experience in-house or in a patent law firm
  • strong communication skills in English and German
  • curious and open mindset with a sound understanding of business interests in the chemical industry
  • experience on drafting and negotiation licensing and joint development agreements is an advantage
