Objectives of the Position
- Develop BASFs´ Standard for Trade Compliance in the area of “Responsible Supply Chain”
- Take Ownership for your cluster by developing appropriate compliance concepts and their implementation for all legal entities in scope inclusive necessary instruments to control relevant trade restrictions
Main Tasks
1. Cluster Lead “Responsible Supply Chain”
- Derive a roadmap for your cluster according to political context & risk analysis for BASF group
- Actively act as a radar function for potential new trade restriction in scope of your cluster
- Coordinate topic leads within your cluster to optimize resources, avoid duplication & maximize output
- Main liaison for internal stakeholders, eg NTCOs, TCC’s with regards to the cluster topics
2. Global Topic Owner EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
- Further develop and implement the EUDR compliance concept for BASF Group, ensuring alignment with legal requirements
- Design & maintain a risk assessment protocol to evaluate and mitigate the risks coming with shipments of affected materials
- Run and promote a due diligence system to trace and verify the origin of regulated products
- Lead a cross-functional team (procurement, sustainability, IT, suppliers) to enhance supply chain traceability through digital tools (e.g., satellite monitoring, geolocation data)
- Drive adoption of certification schemes (e.g., ISPO, MSPO, RSPO) where applicable
- Represent the company in relevant industry associations and/or coordinate with BASF representatives in relevant jurisdictions to shape best practices on deforestation compliance
- Engage with relevant regulators, NGOs, and certification bodies to stay ahead of policy changes
- Prepare material & conduct BASF-wide webinar on “EU Deforestation Regulation” as part of Trade Compliance curriculum, and specific info sessions for impacted target groups within BASF Group.
3. Global Topic Owner Conflict Minerals
- Monitor changes of existing regulations or emerging legislation with extraterritorial impact on trade
- Execute at least annual impact analysis for BASF group and actively inform appropriate stakeholders within BASF to mitigate potential compliance risk
- Document existing compliance concept “Conflict Minerals’ as basis for 2nd and 3rd Line of Defense Monitoring inclusive optimization potential considering also non-SAP supported trade activities
- Prepare material & conduct BASF-wide webinar on “Conflict Minerals” as part of Trade Compliance curriculum, and specific info sessions for impacted target groups within BASF Group.
- Maintain resilient working relationships with interconnected divisions e.g., Procurement (GP), Embedded Procurement (ODs), Human Rights working group in Ludwigshafen (CLC)
- Support business colleagues in covering customer requests
4. Act as Trade Compliance Key Account (key contact point) for Global Procurement Community
Requirements
Education
- Graduate in a natural sciences program (preferred chemistry, chemical engineering) with business law, compliance and supply chain/procurement background preferred.
Working Experience
- Min 8 years of relevant professional and project experience, preferably in the field of foreign trade or compliance and preferably in a chemical company.
- Project management
- Business experience
Technical & Professional Knowledge
- Analytical and conceptual thinking – able to read and interpret regulation and conceptualize them into requirements, high critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with BASF business processes would be a plus
- Team player with a cooperative working style; entrepreneurial drive to take ownership until resolution
- Business fluent in written and spoken English (German preferred)
