We are seeking an Electrical and Instrument Engineering Specialist to join our team at the Palmyra, MO. In this role, you will support projects, provide technical expertise to maintenance and operations, participate in root cause failure analyses, process hazard assessments, and audits. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams - production, maintenance, and operations - will be key as you deliver fixes, improvements and paths forward to challenging problems. Daily, you will work with department members and site personnel to maintain and enhance electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.

- Ensuring compliance with BASF Technical Standards, industry standards, and all applicable regulatory and design codes for assigned jobs and projects.
- Serving as a technical resource for Instrumentation, Safety Instrumented Systems, Power Distribution, and relevant codes and standards.
- Supporting the implementation of capital projects as the E/I discipline lead, managing external engineering and construction resources.
- Performing detailed engineering design for new and modified electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Specifying instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment; collaborate with vendors to identify solutions, assist in troubleshooting, and provide technical support for equipment procurement.
- Providing technical support to improve the reliability and maintainability of I&E equipment, including occasional on-call responsibilities.
- Acting as a resource for one or more plants regarding reliability, preventive maintenance, and critical instrument needs.
- Interfacing with E/I team members, maintenance personnel, project staff, and production/operations to support safe, reliable production at the site.
- Ensuring proper documentation of instrument and electrical equipment records and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements.
- Updating and maintain short circuit, power coordination, and arc flash studies as needed.
- Contributing to the development of procedures, policies, and programs for plant optimization and turnaround (TAR) support.
If you have...
Required:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience regarding chemical plant instrumentation and electrical systems -OR- an Associate’s degree in a relevant technical area and at least seven (7) years of progressively responsible industrial experience regarding chemical plant instrumentation and electrical systems
- Strong knowledge of instrument and electrical design
- Knowledge of codes applicable to a chemical plant including but not limited to NFPA70, 70E
- Knowledge of MCCs, VFDs and switch gear up to at least 480V
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Great problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Desired:
- A working knowledge of DCS platforms (preferably DeltaV) and PLC/Logic Solver systems (preferably Allen-Bradley)
- Experience specifying, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting of temperature, flow, pressure, level and analytical instruments and valves
- Experience with various instrumentation protocols (Fieldbus, Profibus, HART, DeviceNet, Modbus, Wireless)
- Experience with short circuit, power coordination and arc flash studies is a plus.
