BASF/Chemetall, is the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, and a leading supplier of applied surface treatments worldwide. At BASF/Chemetall, we develop and manufacture tailor-made technology and system solutions for applied surface technology. The chemical treatment of metal surfaces is BASF/Chemetall core competence. The focus of our worldwide activities is on the development and implementation of customized technology and system solutions for surface treatment.
We are looking for a Regional Technical Specialist - Paint Detack and Wastewater to join our Sales team; this is a remote position that covers N.A. This individual can be based in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico; however, preferably near an international airport.
The Regional Technical Specialist (RTS) is a North American position (U.S., Canada and Mexico), reporting to the Regional Technical Specialist Manager, aligning within the Key Industry Sales Group.

- Will be the technical coach and mentor to Senior Technical Specialists (STS).
- Will be the top of the training pyramid, with taking responsibility for developing and assigning trainings and training of STS and provide specific technical training to the Technical Service Specialists (TSS) when the STS is unable to provide training.
- Responsible for training customers on specific technologies and processes as needed.
- Attend technical conferences and deliver technical information (white papers) as needed.
- Third line of technical support with customers.
- Develop, gather, and share best practices for specific industries within NA and Global industry segments and applications.
- Conduct tests for technical approvals for segment sponsored customers, onsite or in BASF/Chemetall labs.
- Lead NA beta-site testing and feedback of new technologies, collaborating with Global / Regional Marketing and Technology.
- Support and promote roll-out of new technologies; being the conduit for innovation relaying back information from the customer to Technology and Marketing.
- Participate in regional and/or global customer start-ups as required.
- Participate in business reviews for Key Regional Accounts as required.
- Support Technical audits.
- Support key customers, Industry Sales, and STS for assisting in process design improvements as needed.
- Make product recommendations to field sales that are aligned with Industry best practices and Product Management initiatives, based on legislative and customer requirements.
- Establish and ensure continuity and standards of Technical Service quality across the organization.
If you have...
- BS Degree, preferably in a science field, or the equivalent in training or experience.
- Minimum 5 years of technical service experience required.
- Paint Detack and Wastewater Technology expert regarding chemical and application knowhow.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to conduct technical trainings and mentor technical specialists.
- People development, incl. technical skill development, and cross trainings.
- Interface management with sales, customer, and technology.
- Multicultural (CA, US, MX) mindset required.
- Multi-lingual a plus. (English, Spanish, French)
- Travel, average overnight travel of 60%.
- Preferably located in the vicinity of an airport with flight connections to CA, US and MX.

Pay transparency
BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $130,000-$160,000 USD. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
