BASF/Chemetall, is the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, and a leading supplier of applied surface treatments worldwide. At BASF/Chemetall, we develop and manufacture tailor-made technology and system solutions for applied surface technology. Our products protect metals from corrosion, facilitate forming and treatment, prepare parts optimally for the painting process and ensure excellent coating adhesion. Our technologies and products are used in a variety of industries and end markets such as automotive, aerospace, aluminum finishing and metal forming.

The chemical treatment of metal surfaces is BASF/Chemetall core competence. The focus of our worldwide activities is on the development and implementation of customized technology and system solutions for surface treatment.

We are looking for a Marketing Development Specialist, VIANT to join our Business Development Team; this is a remote position based in the U.S., preferably in the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, or West South Central area.

The Marketing Development Specialist is responsible for identifying, coordinating, and obtaining required approvals as an enabler to grow the business. The Marketing Development Specialist will be viewed as having a firm understanding of his/her market potential and industry trends. This individual will identify prospective customers and markets for Chemetall’s VIANT, New Coating Technology, and lead the sales acquisition process from initial contact through evaluation and testing to ongoing customer retention.

While technical support resources will be available, it is the Marketing Development Specialists strong balance between sales and technical skills that will establish the front line of customer support and troubleshooting as well as the focal point for the accumulation of field application expertise. Technical skills include coordinating audits, sales presentations, product recommendations, process start-ups, troubleshooting problems, creating presentations and training materials.

Marketing support includes internal and external promotion of VIANT, as well as development and reporting of market share and value potential. Marketing tools include, but are not limited to, conference paper presentations, brochures and other printed collateral, on-line advertising and social media.

As a Marketing Development Specialist - VIANT (ECT-Chemetall), you create chemistry by...

  • Develop a plan to meet sales budget annually.
  • Working with the Sales teams, ensure a robust opportunity list to meet annual sales budget.
  • Provide leadership and support to Technical Sales Representatives throughout the sales cycle.
  • Regularly track and report progress on the opportunities.
  • Support Sales team with presentations to key/qualified prospective customers.
  • Assist in the coordination of field trials and start-ups at key/qualified prospective customer locations.
  • Provide direct as well as supporting efforts to obtain customer approvals as needed to grow the business.
  • Provide or coordinate technical support to Technical Sales Representatives and customers.
  • Provide training to the Sales Team and end users (customers).
  • Coordinate on-going audits of key accounts, intimately know key customer accounts.
  • Maintain contact and report activity with key personnel and all strategically important accounts.
  • Provide input for advertisements, articles, success stories, market strategy, and websites.
  • Assist in the launch and promotion of new technologies and product approvals/specification requirements.

If you have...

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Business and/or Marketing, technical degree preferred.
  • Prior industrial, technical and marketing experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience in surface treatment or protective coatings with strong applications experience; knowledge of paint formulation and application or alternative finishing operations such as e-coat or autophoretic coating preferred.
  • Experience in the innovation process of identifying potential markets and customers suitable for the new technology is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to clearly define and quantify the value proposition as well as use that information to market the technology through various channels.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient with the following: analytical skills, business acumen and management skills, and team leadership.
  • Profficient with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook.

Pay transparency

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $160,000-$185,000 USD. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
