BASF Coatings Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (BCTS) is founded in 2023 in Shanghai, China. The company specializes in providing global customers with a high-quality range of innovative and sustainable automotive OEM and refinish coatings’ solutions, powered by advanced capacity of production, R&D and digitalization.
BCTS currently employs approximately 400 individuals. In addition to sales and marketing, the company operates a resin plant for automotive coatings industry, producing a range of raw materials of coatings, including acrylics, polyester, polyurethane, e-coat binder, and intermediate grinding resin. A global Digital Transformation Unit (DTU) and global / regional R&D facilities are also operated by BCTS. The R&D facilities consist of spray booths, drying chambers, simulation line laboratories, and physical testing laboratories, which are used to test, refine, and innovate intermediate and finished products related to automotive coatings. DTU analyzes prospective future business sectors for coatings industry to offer digital solutions.
Objectives:
- Basic Know How in automotive coatings for both water borne and solvent borne technologies
- Drives Basecoat development activities and ensures know-how exchange and collaboration within the Coatings
- Actively contribute to Basecoat development projects
- In depth knowledge of coating formulations, resin chemistry, coating additives, pigments and solvents
- Practical experience with coating test methods and familiar with ASTM, DIN and GB standard for Basecoat technology
- General knowledge and experience in pneumatic application and electrostatic application
- Exercise a high level of good housekeeping and Health and Safety Awareness within the Lab and insure others to do the same
Main Task:
- Follow company policies including EHS, internal and external audit.
- Basecoat development, paint application, evaluation of coatings performance according to standards/customer requirements
- Actively exchange with customization teams to ensure success development and launch of products
- Coach product upscale to ensure technology transfer to lab phase to production phase
- Contact with raw material suppliers for screening/introducing new raw materials
- Close contact and exchange with global basecoat community to build up basecoat competence
- Promotes know-how exchange and collaboration within Coatings Business Unit
- Guides and provides required training for the work of one or more chemists or technicians and supervises visiting students or scientists on temporary assignments.
- Writes comprehensive reports and evaluations on data obtained from experimentation and, if necessary, orally present observations, conclusions and recommendations to persons in areas of the company's interests.
Job Requirements:
- Master/PhD in Technology Preferable with Polymer Technology
- Min 3-5 years in the field of Automotive OEM Coatings technology development for Master; Minimum 1-2 years working experience for PhD
