The Muskegon EHS Manager is responsible for working with the Muskegon Operations and Quality Control teams to develop and deploy Environmental Health & Safety programs and Process Safety Programs to mitigate risk, drive regulatory compliance and promote a positive EHS culture. Support the EHS team in the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local Regulatory Requirements.
This position reports to the Muskegon Site Manager and is part of the Resin and Technologies Operations team located in Muskegon and will be a fully on-site role.
What you will do:
- Department manager for the Muskegon EHS team that includes specialist in construction safety, life safety, environmental management and process safety management. Use people leadership skills to foster a strong safety culture at the site. Coach and develop EHS team through management style, delegation of tasks, and support training opportunities.
- Develop and maintain EHS programs, policies, permits, procedures and training programs to drive compliance with Federal, State, Local and Cytiva regulations and requirements. Become certified in ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and Business Continuity Management System..
- Utilize Danaher Business System (DBS), a LEAN management system, to manage the EHS organization, and drive continuous improvement to the ISO 14001 standard.
- Implements and coordinates all Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomic activities.
- Manages non-hazardous, hazardous, and universal waste disposal and minimization activity.
- Facilitate and lead Plant Safety and sub-team committees. This includes providing support with incident investigations and 5-Why Tree/Root Cause Analysis and application of corrective action.
- Coordinates with site Human Resources Manager in the administration of Worker’s Compensation and Early Return to Work Program.
Who you are:
- BS degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Sustainability, or other engineering or science focused field.
- Five (5) years of experience leading site level EHS teams.
- Experience in managing/handling compliance issues, OSHA/EPA programs, regulatory reviews, and permit management.
- Microsoft Office ™ skills to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Strong communication, leadership, presentation, training, analytical, organizational, and influencing skills.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: if applicable for role
- Some local and international travel is required. Overall travel is expected to be less that 15% except for the first year as several trips to Sweden may be required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift, move or carry items up to 30lb.
- Ability to walk through the site on both paved, and uneven ground.
- Ability to occasionally climb ladders, stairs, stoop kneel and crouch to investigate indoor and outdoor potential EHS hazards.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Experience with MIOSHA/OSHA, EGLE/EPA, DOT and Michigan regulations.
- Associate/Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other EHS related certification.
- Experience with Federal, Michigan and local Worker’s Compensation law and prior experience establishing proactive Ergonomics Program.
- Experience with GENSUITE ™ or other HSE data management systems.
