The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for Project Leadership driving Life Cycle Management (LCM) of parts and key sub-systems in advanced Medical Devices through industry-leading Engineering and OEM partners. As mechanical expert, you will ensure solid mechanical design in your own as well as colleges projects. You will play a pivotal role in shaping how we collaborate with specialized and industry leading partners, as well as internal stakeholders, to support Radiometer’s product portfolio of Critical Medical Devices.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager – Hardware in BDC, Bangalore and is part of the Global Instrument R&D. The position is located in BDC office, Bangalore, India. It will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Drive Life Cycle Management (LCM) projects, with special focus on mechanical design activities of parts, sub-assemblies as well as at Instrument level, through collaboration with external Industri leading partners, internal project teams and stakeholders.
- You'll work at the forefront of advanced Medical Devices, leveraging unique intellectual property that integrates advanced chemistry, electronics, and mechanical sub-systems. Together, we enable precision diagnostics that help save lives - every single day.
- Collaborate and ensure seamless collaboration with external partners, suppliers, test houses as well as internal stakeholders to ensure the mechanical design activities are delivered on time, matching the high level of quality required for our leading Precision Diagnostics needed in the medical device industry.
- Define and continuously improve processes, with special focus on mechanical design procedures and tools, utilizing our recognized Danaher Business System (LEAN Tools) for efficient and superior quality and Product Lifecycle Management of parts and sub-systems.
- Drive compliance, product quality and reliability, through documentation, change control and incl. transfer to manufacturing to ensure Industry leading Precision Diagnostics.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- A Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, potentially combined with Project management experience. Knowledge of instrument development, understanding of verification testing as well as the concept of systems engineering including requirement driven design and verification
- Experience with mechanical design, Creo and WindChill and solid knowledge and experience with Product development
- Knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, metrology principles and machine shop practices. Knowledgeable in 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and modern engineering techniques for development. Understanding of fluidics, thermal control, and mechanical integration in diagnostic platforms
- Strong analytical, structured, and process-oriented mindset
- Excellent interpersonal skills and stakeholder management abilities as well as effective communication and presentation skills.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to travel – some travels to partner as well as other Radiometer sites incl HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- 2+ years of experience from external partnerships and working with cross-functional project management.
- Experience working in, and handling design documentation in, Medical Devices industry (ISO 13485, FDA 21CFR 820.30) and/or other comparable regulated industry (eg Aerospace)
- Experience with the principles of Dfx (DFR, DFMA, etc), FMEA, Modeling, Simulation, Mechanical Tolerance analysis and Technical reviews. Hands on experience of mechanical design for the medical industry, CAD, GD&T/Geometrical dimensioning.
- Experience working with complex systems involving mechanical, electrical, and software components—crucial for diagnostic instruments
- Experience from a multi-cultural global company setup
