The Senior Director, Digital Technology is responsible for setting and driving the overall technology vision and strategy of the organization. As a key member of the leadership team, this role defines and leads the development and execution of the digital technology initiatives that align with the company’s strategic goals. The key foundational criteria the role builds upon is simplification, cost-effective and scalable solutions that deliver dependable uptime and adaptability. The Senior Director, Digital Technology will oversee all technical aspects of the company, including product engineering and infrastructure as well as work with the cybersecurity and PMO team to ensure successful delivery.

This position reports to the Chief Digital Officer and is key member of the global Abcam Digital Department. This is a remote first position with requirement to attend Abcam locations as need for project work and critical situations.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Define, Develop and evolve the company’s digital roadmap aligned with business objectives, delivering and executing the digital initiatives aligned to the roadmap and supported by the functional engagement leads
• Serve as a thought partner to the CDO and executive team on technology strategy, product innovation, and digital transformation, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and accountability within the technology organization.
• Lead the enterprise architect team and derive decisions on software architecture, system design, data platforms, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and performance of all technology platforms.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance competitive advantage.
• Promote cross-functional collaboration and a healthy engineering culture, collaborating with the functions through the functional leads to ensure timely and market-aligned product delivery.
• Translate customer and business needs into scalable and secure technical solutions.
• Manage the budget, resource allocation, and vendor partnerships, driving cost effectiveness and cost-out

The essential requirements of the job include:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in IT, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong knowledge of IT architecture and front and back-office technologies
• Proven track record of leading global IT teams
• Strong understanding of IT security principles, cloud security, and third-party risk management;
• Ability to challenge, influence, and collaborate at all levels, including senior leadership
• A mix of strategic thinking and hands-on execution who is data driven with an eye for the detail
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, you thrive on change and love solving problems
