This Manufacturing Engineer, Optical position is responsible for opto-electronic components and systems that drive significant impact to the organization. They will support manufacturing and test operations for production of diagnostic instruments. The position will perform troubleshooting and implement changes that improve manufacturing quality and product performance, via activities such as historical data analysis, test design, documentation, and implementation/validation of equipment and process changes. Candidate will collaborate with development to develop and refine process and specifications for new systems and/or identity changes to existing ones.
This position reports to the Sr. Manager, NPI Manufacturing Engineering, IDC and is part of the Global Instrument Operations and Global Supply Chain Organization. This position is located in Bangalore, India and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Create and document test fixtures for optical components and subassemblies; maintain and update product functional specifications and test infrastructure.
- Provide technical expertise to the production line, support prototype and production builds, and resolve quality and process issues.
- Evaluate and select suppliers for optical parts (e.g., LEDs, filters), and lead resolution of supplier-related quality issues.
- Perform root cause analysis of failures, troubleshoot and redesign as needed, and implement performance and cost improvement initiatives.
- Design experiments, collect and analyze data, write technical reports, and demonstrate leadership, initiative, and ownership to drive business outcomes.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- MS or PhD in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Fluidics, or related discipline with minimum 5 years industry experience
- Minimum 5 years experience with opto-electronic systems including fluorescence processes, molecular biochemistry, biomedical materials processing, optical element sourcing and fabrication, and PCR fundamentals
- Proficiency in automated component and subsystem testing using measurement systems and instrumentation
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations and process implementation across multiple sites with 10–25% travel availability
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and ability to lift or move equipment up to 25 lbs
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Experience with NPI process, and Design Control process
- Experience with Zemax, SolidWorks, MiniTab, MS productions and Agile
- Experience working in a product development environment and/or within manufacturing operations under cGMP, ISO and FDA regulations
