The Senior Research Engineer - Embedded Systems is responsible for designing, implementing, and testing embedded systems for experimental prototypes and advanced technology projects.
This position reports to the Senior Manager - Research and is part of the Central Technology Organization (CTO) R&D department located in Bangalore and will be an on-site role. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.
What You Will Do
- Design and develop embedded software for microcontrollers, SoCs, and custom hardware platforms.
- Translate experimental concepts into functional prototypes.
- Implement real-time operating systems (RTOS) and optimize performance for low-power and resource-constrained environments.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and communication modules (e.g., CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
- Conduct debugging, validation, and performance testing of embedded systems.
- Document designs, code, and test results for reproducibility and future reference.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies in embedded systems and contribute to research publications or patents.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years experience in embedded and firmware systems design and product development.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ with Data Structures and Algorithms for embedded systems.
- Expertise in RTOS, embedded Linux, microcontrollers, microprocessors, Embedded PCs, communication protocols, and debugging with JTAG.
- Familiarity with wireless technologies (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa) and IoT frameworks.
- Experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex, PIC, AVR) and development tools (e.g., GCC, Keil, IAR).
- Familiarity with device drivers, and low-level hardware programming.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART).
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debugging tools.
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and DevOps. Prior experience with CI/CD for embedded will be an advantage.
- Prior exposure to FPGA programming and familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink for modelling and simulation is preferrable as will be experience in research or experimental prototyping.
