Purpose/Objective:
- The Senior Industrial Engineer (P3a) is responsible for the development, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for Leica Microsystems products, including new product introductions and sustaining activities. This role ensures compliance with internal procedures, specifications, and applicable regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, FDA, NMPA), applying best practices with minimal supervision.
The position also supports cross-functional collaboration across Operations, Supply Chain, and R&D, and may lead small-scale projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.
Area of Responsibilities:
- Lead process development and improvement initiatives for LMS products, including optical and precision instruments.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by designing and validating manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Develop and optimize production line layouts, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Design and review fixtures, jigs, and gauges to improve assembly and testing efficiency (mechanical focus).
- Collaborate with automation and software teams to implement digital tools and smart manufacturing solutions (electrical/software focus).
- Prepare and maintain documentation in compliance with ISO, FDA, and NMPA requirements.
- Integrate EHS and quality requirements into daily operations and process design.
- Apply DBS (Danaher Business System) tools to drive continuous improvement and problem-solving.
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Lead or support cross-functional projects related to productivity, cost reduction, and quality improvement.

Skills / Competencies
- Strong problem-solving skills using PSP and DBS tools.
- Ability to lead small projects and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in process development for high-precision instruments or medical devices.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, value stream mapping, and layout optimization.
- Good communication and collaboration skills across departments and cultures.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and results driven.
- Willingness to coach and support team development.
- Strong sense of ownership and urgency.
Functional knowledge
- Expertise in industrial engineering, process optimization, and manufacturing systems.
- Basic understanding of related disciplines such as automation, quality, and supply chain.

- No supervisory responsibilities but provide informal guidance to new team members.
Problem solving
- Solves complex problems, leveraging PSP methodology, with some coaching; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on limited set of data.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical, Automation, or related fields.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, including at least 3 years in medical devices or precision instruments.
Travel
- Less than 15%, including domestic and occasional international travel.
Language
- Native Chinese & Fluent English.
