The Role: Technical & Applications Support Supervisor (M1)
The Technical and Applications Support Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in driving customer success, scientific excellence, and operational performance across South Africa.
Reporting directly to the Country Manager – South Africa, this position leads three interconnected departments:
Application Specialists
Global Product Technical Support Specialists
Customer Technical Support Specialists
Together, these teams form a cross-functional, customer-facing engine supporting complex diagnostic solutions and large-scale implementations.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Drive performance across multiple departments by defining KPIs and aligning execution to business objectives
Lead major customer-facing initiatives, including large-scale instrument rollouts and complex projects
Act as a senior escalation point, ensuring fast, effective resolution through collaboration with global support teams
Facilitate internal and external stakeholder engagements to drive alignment, planning, and delivery
Identify customer training needs and design tailored solutions that enhance adoption, satisfaction, and long-term success
Assess internal capability gaps and lead structured training, mentoring, and upskilling initiatives
Support strategic channel partners through needs assessment and customized training aligned to business growth objectives
Apply DBS tools (PSP, Kaizen, VSM) to continuously improve processes, service delivery, and operational efficiency
Develop and implement standard work, training documentation, and compliant work instructions
Own the local training center, including planning, budgeting, and resource optimization
Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Field Service, Quality, and Product teams to ensure seamless customer experience
Deliver high-impact scientific and technical presentations to internal and external audiences
Measure training effectiveness using feedback and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement
Provide input on hiring, performance management, and people development decisions
Manage external vendors and consultants supporting training and service delivery
Ensure compliance with internal standards and healthcare regulatory requirements
Oversee administrative activities related to expenses, travel, overtime, and HR processes
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
Biomedical Science / Medical Laboratory Science
Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or Microbiology
Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, Biomedical, or Mechanical)
Technical & Industry Knowledge (Advantage)
Experience with diagnostic instruments or laboratory workflows
Exposure to customer technical support systems
Understanding of healthcare regulations (ISO standards, Good Documentation Practice, etc.)
Experience designing and delivering technical training programs
Travel & Eligibility Requirements
Ability to travel up to 30% within the territory (including overnight travel)
Valid South African driver’s license
South African citizenship
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Postgraduate qualification (Honours or Master’s) in a scientific or engineering discipline
