The Manufacturing Engineering, Systems is responsible for developing suppliers of highly technical components and working with the New Product Introduction Team to bring new instruments to maturity in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will quickly learn the modular details of the diagnostic instruments while developing suppliers in low-cost regions and growing their associates capabilities.
This position is part of the Manufacturing Engineering team for Instruments and will be located in Bangalore, India and will be an on-site role. At Cepheid, our vision is to ensure that every patient has access to the right diagnostic test at the right time.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop, implement, and optimize functional and system test processes for manufacturing floors, including test parameter definition, test documentation creation, data collection integration, performance monitoring, and quality assurance procedures for hardware, software, biological, and chemical systems
- Manage contract manufacturers and global suppliers by monitoring test yield, leading recurring factory performance reviews, driving process and product quality improvements, and ensuring required engineering, technical, and process safety support is provided
- Conduct system‑level risk analysis and complex data analytics to identify trends, investigate anomalies, and execute statistically rigorous failure investigations, including experiment design, documentation of investigation progress, and preparation of final reports
- Lead systemic investigations and continuous improvement initiatives using statistical methodologies, while ensuring compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, environmental guidelines, and manufacturing quality expectations across internal and external partners
- Develop and qualify new production‑capable manufacturers in emerging and low‑cost regions, support organizational response to critical supplier issues, and coordinate cross‑functional technical resources required to resolve supplier‑related crises
The essential requirements of the job include:
- MS in Engineering with 7+ years experience in global operations within regulated manufacturing environments under cGMP, ISO and FDA requirements
- Proven expertise in PCBA manufacturing, system integration, and component module assembly
- Demonstrated application of Lean Manufacturing methodologies in high‑volume production environments
- Experience performing statistical analysis and managing large, complex manufacturing data sets using business intelligence analytics tools
- Ability to lead and execute multiple manufacturing investigations concurrently, including root‑cause analysis and data‑driven resolution activities within regulated operations
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Lean Six sigma Black Belt
- Detailed knowledge and experience with managing contract manufacturers
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple technical programs
- Statistical analysis using Minitab
