The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the design and development of software to enable a novel, multi-component oligonucleotide synthesis platform to help transform IDT’s capabilities.
This position reports to the Senior Manager and is part of the Emerging Technologies team located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Leverage your expertise to deliver transformative capabilities for IDT's oligo synthesis platforms, from initial ideation to prototyping and development to implementation in a manufacturing environment.
Design and implement software to coordinate operations of multiple hardware subsystems – fluidics, electronics, mechatronics – into unified workflows.
Develops applications that communicate with SQL based LIMS systems and/or ERP systems
Influence technical decisions and set software standards and best practices for a platform that is under development.
Collaborate within a cross-disciplinary team to translate experimental goals into reliable, repeatable automated processes.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related discipline required with a minimum of 5 years’ applicable industry experience.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing control, system-integration, and user-interface software for complex hardware-based instruments, preferably in biotech or life sciences applications.
Experience with modern object-oriented languages (C#, Python, etc.) and experience building in both front-end and back-end ecosystems for standalone desktop software (.NET preferred).
Previous experience with current relational database products required; MySQL or MS-SQL Server experience preferred.
Comfort working in an early-stage R&D environment where requirements evolve, and emphasis is placed on adaptability, initiative and good judgement.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Ability to travel 5% time domestically.
Ability to occasionally lift, move or carry equipment up to 10 lbs.
Ability to occasionally work in a laboratory environment for extended periods.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Biotechnology device experience (e.g. synthesis, sequencing, or –omics enabling workflow devices).
Working with hardware communication protocols (e.g. serial, USB, Ethernet, fieldbus).
Implementing data logging, monitoring, and basic visualization for experimental or prototype platforms.
Collaborating on multidisciplinary teams where software must align with mechanical, electrical, and chemical system constraints.
Early exposure to system-level ownership, such as being the primary author or maintainer for a prototype control stack.

The annual salary range for this role is $135-155K. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
