The Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for collaborating with multi-disciplinary team members to design and develop novel bioprocessing products for downstream processing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to add significant value in defining the future of drug manufacturing processes.

This position reports to the Senior R&D Manager and is part of the Filtration R&D New Product Development Team located in Westborough, MA and will be an on-site role.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the achievement of engineering team objectives by serving as a lead technical member on the new product development team, taking ownership from initial concept through to full-scale implementation.
  • Develop both conceptual and detailed designs utilizing 3D CAD software (such as SolidWorks), applying tolerance analysis and stress calculations to ensure robust design integrity.
  • Construct prototypes and author comprehensive test protocols to validate and assess design performance. Prepare clear reports and presentations to communicate design activities and findings.
  • Carry out product development tasks including, but not limited to, creating design verification & validation plans, executing tests, and drafting verification & validation reports for Filtration products (TFF and NFF).
  • Collaborate in the development of project plans, fulfillment of stage gate deliverables, and facilitation of design reviews. Proactively identify potential project obstacles, delays, and risks, and employ effective problem-solving and communication strategies to address critical issues.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in new or custom product development environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, analysis, and simulation; demonstrated experience designing complex assemblies involving plastics, metals, and electromechanical systems.
  • Prefer a balanced workload that evenly integrates hands-on laboratory work with computer-based tasks. Comprehensive knowledge of common and specialized engineering materials.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication abilities, delivering clear presentations and effectively conveying information to team members and higher-level leadership.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel approximately 10% - domestic and international overnight(s).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 30lbs.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • More than five years of experience serving as the lead mechanical design engineer within new product development environments.
  • Proven track record in creation of novel concepts, designing and developing biotechnology or filtration products.

The annual salary range for this role is $120,000 - $140,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
