The Application Consultant is responsible for delivering first class and professional technical applications support and training, performing demonstrations of Leica Biosystems instruments and reagents, supporting with promotion and sales of the LBS product portfolio, mostly though not exclusively in their defined territory, ensuring Leica Biosystems’ solutions have maximum uptime and performance through optimisation of reagents and systems, thereby retaining customers to generate reagent order intake. The ultimate objective is to support customers throughout the entire customer journey whilst growing core reagent and product sales through market intelligence.

This position reports to the Sales Enablement Manager UKI – Pre-Analytics and is part of the Sales Team based in Milton Keynes, UK. The role is fully remote i.e. home-office based with travel to customer sites expected up to 80% of the time.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to undertake both applications and commercial tasks:

Applications Tasks – Post Sales

  • Instrument and software training for customers
  • Troubleshooting and assisting customers with application issues
  • Customer support with assay optimisation, validation and verification

Commercial Tasks - Pre Sales

  • Instrument demonstrations
  • Assist in preparation of tender technical responses and commercial bids
  • Support Account Manager in customer meetings and work closely with entire (local) Leica Biosystems team on business strategy to achieve increased sales.
  • Support at Trade Shows and Conferences.

The essential requirements of the job include:

Education: BA/BSc in Biomedical Science, Life Science or equivalent field.

Years of experience:

Minimum: Multiple years’ strong experience in all areas of Histology.

Essential skills:

  • Detailed practical knowledge of primary/special staining, tissue processing, sectioning and immunohistochemistry techniques.
  • Experience with optimisation, functionality and support of manual and automated histology methods, instruments and reagents, with a focus on troubleshooting and continuous improvement, using problem solving skills to identify customer needs and adapt support strategies to gain customer trust.
  • Strong communication skills and commercial awareness – able to make presentations to different audiences (including C-suite), conduct training classes; act as brand ambassador to win competitive customers and support sales lead qualification.
  • Work with integrity and lead by example with compliance, following procedures and processes in a highly regulated sector.
  • Self-directed with ability to operate in a matrix organization, collaborate without direct influence with peers in sales, service, product management and other functions.

It would be a plus if you also possess:

  • Relevant experience in a technical, sales-oriented environment.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel within their defined territory up to 80% of the time, including overnight stays, and attend customer sites, sales and related product meetings as required nationwide.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
