BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) team is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver detailed investment outcomes and innovative alpha insights. Our team of 350+ multi-asset investment professionals construct active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels. Currently, MASS handles over $900 billion in assets and has a strong presence in the Americas, EMEA and throughout Asia Pacific.

Hedge Fund Solutions group (HFS) within MASS is one of the largest allocators to hedge funds in the world. With around $30 billion under management, HFS provides hedge fund solutions and hedge fund oriented co-investments to a broad array of institutional clients through commingled and custom fund structures. HFS product offerings encompass numerous investment strategies that span equity and credit markets, but also less traditional asset classes typically trafficked by specialized asset managers. HFS has significant experience in early manager identification, demonstrated access to unique investment opportunities and is a pioneer in hedge fund co-investments. HFS leverages the insights of the firm’s substantial network of traders, legal and operational professionals globally to inform investment decisions. 

HFS is looking for an Associate to join the Manager Research team to focus on hedge fund strategies in which the platform invests.

Responsibilities

Evaluate New Fund Investments

• Assist in both quantitative and qualitative analysis of prospective investments

• Work closely with Portfolio Managers and other senior professionals on investment due diligence including onsite visits, analysis, and the preparation and presentation of investment recommendations

• Conduct deep dive analysis on underlying portfolio investments

• Create and maintain professional network contacts, identify and evaluate news articles and research reports for pertinent information, and provide the Research team with timely and insightful data points

 Monitor Fund Investments

• Help prepare for and participate in manager meetings and calls

• Help prepare broader strategy- and portfolio-level reviews with Portfolio Managers and other senior professionals

 Additional responsibilities

• Participate in the collection, synthesis, and dissemination of information gathered through interacting with external hedge fund managers and being a student of the markets

• Build an in-depth understanding of a range of hedge fund strategies and associated instruments

• Develop an understanding of the capital markets in which the hedge funds operate

 Skills and Qualifications

• 2-5 years’ previous experience preferred, but not required

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics/statistics, or Engineering preferred but not required

• Outstanding academic credentials

• Desire to complete the CFA program

• The ability to work with individuals at all levels of an organization and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm

• Outstanding analytical and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail

• Capacity to keep the strategic vision of a company in sight while paying attention to the details of day-to-day operations

• Exceptional communication skills, with the right level of confidence and assertiveness, to present and promote ideas at all levels of the organization

• Intellectual curiosity with an ability to be a self-starter

Our hybrid work model
