About this role

Job Summary

As Head of India Legal & Compliance, you will work closely with key regional and global L&C stakeholders (such as respective Heads of APAC Legal & Compliance) to implement BlackRock’s best practice L&C program across the BlackRock India Services entities located in Gurgaon and Mumbai. This role will also play a critical role in engaging with regional and global business stakeholders to implement BlackRock’s strategic business priorities in India as a center of excellence for building scale and efficiencies in global processes and practices.

As a member of the APAC Compliance team, you will work closely with local, regional, and global teams and internal business stakeholders to provide compliance and regulatory advice on a range of matters and issues. You may also deal with relevant regulators and industry associations.

We are seeking an individual with exceptionally strong leadership, people and team management skills and with current or past experience in one of more of the following functions such as enterprise and core compliance, marketing and distribution compliance and strong track record in a services firm in either asset management, a buy-side financial services firm or sell-side banking institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a senior legal and compliance professional, you will provide advice directly (and through existing teams) to all business units across India dealing with a potentially wide range of issues including portfolio management, licensing, enterprise compliance, marketing and distribution and client business as well as inter-entity sourcing and outsourcing issues.

  • Advise on local and regional laws and regulations, as well as BlackRock’s policies and procedures and global best practice standards. You will participate in global and/or regional compliance initiatives to ensure regional and global consistency, implement new requirements and ensure best practices.

  • Work closely with senior offshore L&C colleagues to ensure consistency of advice and practices across APAC.

  • Consult with regulators and industry groups to advance BlackRock’s and our client’s regulatory policy agenda and provide input to consultation papers and other regulatory reforms.

  • Participation in global and/or regional compliance initiatives to ensure global best practices and consistency including in the regional coordination of tasks.

  • Monitoring local and regional regulatory developments and evaluating their impact on the business

  • Consulting with regional and global compliance and business colleagues, as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10-15 years relevant working experience in legal and/or compliance in service entity related to asset management, a buy-side global financial services firm or sell-side banking institution.

  • Previous experience related to employee conduct experience, core compliance and enterprise compliance. Experience in dealing with marketing and distribution compliance, financial crime compliance and licensing compliance will be looked at favorably.

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to interact and negotiate with key internal and external business stakeholders.

  • Strong written/oral communication, organizational, and people skills.

  • University degree in Law/ Finance/ Accounting/ Business/ Economics preferred.
