Private Equity Partners Overview
BlackRock Private Equity Partners (“BlackRock PEP”) is the private equity investment solutions group at BlackRock. Private Equity Partners has offices in Princeton, London, Zurich, Hong Kong and Singapore with a total AUM of approximately $50 billion across a range of commingled funds and separate accounts. Major investors with BlackRock PEP include insurance firms, pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and sophisticated family offices. BlackRock PEP invests globally across the range of private equity strategies, including venture capital, growth, buyouts, distressed, and special situations.
Job Purpose/Background
PEP is looking for an experienced analyst to join its APAC investment team. The candidate will be an active participant in the direct co-investment and fund selection process by performing screening, research, financial modelling, and other quantitative & qualitative analyses as part of the investment team. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree and 1 - 2 years of relevant training or investment experience (e.g., private equity, investment banking, accounting or management consulting).
This position demands excellent communication skills, strong analytical insight and financial modelling skills, perseverance and creativity in accessing information, the ability to balance multiple tasks, but most importantly, the ability to work effectively in a cross-border team environment and a passion for private equity investing.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in due diligence of investment opportunities (direct investments and primary funds), including conducting market and company research, preparing valuation analyses, financial & operating modelling, investment memoranda preparation, and presenting recommendations to the senior investment team.
Develop and maintain relationships with private equity fund general partners and intermediaries and build market coverage across the APAC region.
Work with and help guide the development of junior investment professionals.
Assist in the preparation of summary review materials in support of internal quarterly reviews, external investor reports, advisory board meetings, and fundraising.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders including BlackRock groups (Legal, Operations, and Risk), counterparties and clients to manage the closings of new investments.
Requirements
1 - 2 years of relevant work experience (e.g., private equity, investment banking, accounting or management consulting).
Communication skills – strong written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to formulate and articulate opinions and defend them effectively.
International language skills (with fluency in Korean or Japanese preferred) in addition to fluent business English.
Technical skills – the successful candidate will have solid ability to understand, develop and analyse financial models for companies and private equity funds (e.g., LBO models, valuation models, fund cash flow models).
Analytical and critical thinking – ability to identify and articulate key investment considerations and risks.
Interpersonal & team skills – comfortable with consensus decision-making and working in a cross-border and international team-based environment.
High level of intellectual curiosity.
Organizational and time-management skills particularly attention to detail.
Outstanding academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and extracurricular involvement.
Passion for the private equity industry and investing.
