Business Unit Overview:
Global Product Solutions (“GPS”) was formed in 2024 with a mission to innovate, curate and commercialize the full breadth of our investment platform for what our clients need, wherever they are. The team is responsible for driving commercial investment priorities across the platform, innovating the next wave of products and solutions, accelerating our iShares adoption, sharpening our commercial focus on active products and helping clients build better portfolios via actionable market and portfolio insights.
Within GPS, BlackRock’s Japan iShares business helps wealth managers, asset managers and institutional clients in the region build better portfolios, delivering BlackRock’s full suite of active & index ETF solutions.
Role Purpose/Background:
The ETF market is undergoing a period of significant change, driven by a combination of regulatory and structural factors. BlackRock has a leading presence in Japan and our global platform, the breadth of our investment expertise and risk management capabilities enable us to provide truly differentiated solutions to our clients.
As we continue growing our distribution & solutions business in Japan, we are looking for an experienced business leader to help develop client strategy, build new partnerships and drive coverage of the wealth and institutional market. (Including regional banks, mega banks. wealth managers, Insurance companies, non- banking financial institutions, online brokers and other digital distribution platforms).
Key responsibilities:
Strategy and Leadership Responsibilities
Set the vision for the Japan iShares business and deliver an integrated strategy spanning products, sales and marketing to grow the franchise with double digit organic revenue growth targets.
Lead business development and partner with the Global Client Business to commercialize BlackRock’s full suite of capabilities for ETF & index investments, and wealth solutions. The role will focus on expanding ETF adoption across distribution channels in Japan, and include:
Cultivating strong dialogues with Client Business teams, through the delivery of BlackRock’s capital market views and support on portfolio construction with the aim of driving flows in ETFs.
Deepening relationships with manager & fund selection teams to further buy list penetration. This includes supporting on product queries, responding to searches, driving due diligence processes and priority initiatives such as roadshows & product development
Working with local iShares leadership to develop product pipeline and pricing strategy, and drive product innovation. Collaborating with Blackrock Global Markets (BGM) to enhance the platform and drive product innovation
Identifying, evaluating, and driving strategic partnerships. This includes identifying and pursuing transformational opportunities for wealth solutions
Building deeper access to client distribution networks through campaigns, marketing initiatives, sales activation events and strategic distribution partnerships.
Mapping of client archetypes and use cases to build strategic priorities and product offerings across our global and locally domiciled iShares products
Driving & supporting the local and regional iShares team on strategic and thematic projects including understanding of competitive dynamics in local market fund ranges.
Knowledge/Experience
Proven robust and lengthy track record of raising assets and managing relationships with sophisticated wealth or asset management clients in Japan.
Strong financial services industry knowledge. This should include a deep insight into the Japan investment management ecosystems, including needs & wants of regional investors and their business drivers from operational and regulatory as well business model perspectives
Deep and broad technical product and market knowledge across capital markets. Prior experience with ETFs in a leadership and business building role.
Strong project management skills preferred with proven ability to deliver complex client engagements.
Skills/Qualifications
Ability to operate and communicate at executive level – both internally and with clients.
Ability to navigate through a complex matrix structure successfully.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in Japanese & English
Highly motivated self-starter with strong ability to multi-task
Character with high ethical and quality standards, integrity, gravitas, diplomacy, and drive.
Strong, collaborative, problem-solving skills
This role requires a flexible approach to suit market demands with strong judgement, consulting, negotiating and influencing skills.
Reporting
This role will report to the APAC Head of GPS from a functional perspective, with a matrix reporting to Head of iShares APAC, whilst also working closely with both institutional and wealth sales leadership in Japan.
The successful candidate will be an enterprise owner with a strong track record of establishing and growing senior client relationships, building & motivating high performance sales teams, and achieving commercial success at scale.
