The BlackRock MASS team based in Sydney is seeking to expand its team by hiring a Strategist to support our growing Model Portfolio Solutions business in Australia. In this role, you will work alongside Portfolio Managers and focus on commercialising model portfolios (also known as managed accounts) for financial advisers and other intermediary clients. The widespread adoption of Model Portfolios / Managed Accounts is one of the most significant evolutions in the Australian Wealth Management industry over the last decade. As the industry drives towards greater simplicity, clarity, operational efficiency, and tailored investment solutions, the Model Portfolio Solutions business is uniquely positioned to support advisers and other client segments with the adoption of model portfolios.

It will require a strong combination of skills with a self-starter attitude, and ability to thrive in a high-paced, high-performance environment, and a good ability to navigate both investment markets with client interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be an excellent insightful communicator, have attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, desire to learn, and familiarity/interest with a wide range of multi-asset portfolios, markets and products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business development for the MASS Model Portfolio Solutions business in Australia by helping drive sales through more technical investment topics, data and support day-to-day client and sales requests.
  • Be responsible for day-to-day deliverables, including:
    • Preparing and maintaining portfolio review decks, ensuring these meet compliance practices
    • Preparing and maintaining product pitch-books and other standard client collateral such as factsheets, performance reports, worksheets, and internal updates
    • Assisting with ad-hoc requests (e.g., performance analytics, attribution, bespoke reporting)
    • Updating/drafting RFPs and RFIs
    • Responding to and delivering product information to support Consultant and Rating Agency requests for information and analysis
    • Delivering other materials, responding to ad-hoc requests for analysis or product information from partners such as distribution, legal & compliance, finance & accounting teams.
  • Help improve existing processes with new insights/automation and developing best practices across the global Product Strategy platform.
  • Contribute to the broader MASS team, working closely with the Portfolio Management team to support and drive the broader MASS business.
  • Remain up-to-date on developments in global financial markets and economics, with a focus on the Australia market; including the views expressed by our BlackRock’s Investment Institute.
  • Support the development of new investment products and solutions from inception to launch.
  • Become a fluent user of our technology system, Aladdin, to support and scale the MASS Strategy processes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of asset management industry or in other financial services
  • CFA charter holder preferred
  • Knowledge, curiosity and desire to learn financial markets and investments
  • Strong attention to detail, a sense of urgency around deadlines and act constructively
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, and familiarity with investment tools such as Eikon or Bloomberg would be beneficial
  • Curiosity and desire to leverage AI to improve existing processes and create scale
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: capable of connecting with multiple audiences and adapting style of communication to suit with local and global audience
  • Proven organisational skills and ability to manage multiple objectives simultaneously
  • Must possess a strong work ethic, and must be a team player with the ability to work well under pressure
