Role Description:
BlackRock is looking to continue its expansion in China with talented individuals who can truly drive the business to the next level. We are currently looking for an experienced professional with minimum 2 years of equity research or investment experience, plus a strong desire to advance his/her career to take up the role of Analyst, Equity and Multi-Asset Researcher, with a tilt towards equity pricing. We will also consider exceptional candidates with strong experience who are returning to the industry. The position will be based in Shanghai and report to the CIO of Equity, MASS and Indexing at China FMC.
This role is expected to produce investment research and drive investment process according to business needs, covering pricing analysis of pre-IPO stocks, maintaining stock pools and driving product-specific investment allocations. In addition, contribution to quantitative signal research and macro research is encouraged. The role also provides daily support to portfolio managers regarding issuer-level due diligence, coordination/collaboration across multiple teams and reporting on performance / risk analytics. The role is expected to progress towards ranked researcher or junior portfolio manager after a few years, depending on business needs and the candidate’s capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Process driven - track and update IPO deals and relevant data; write stock pricing reports -conduct financial analysis, build valuation models and provide pre-IPO pricings. Drive product-specific investment allocations in a timely and orderly manner.
Follow the markets, macro and policy on a daily basis and conduct market and macroeconomic research across all asset classes. Automate data collection/analytics generation to produce regular reports.
Work with RQA and IT teams to understand the risk analytics infrastructure, help to produce risk decomposition and performance attribution reports. Produce ad-hoc due diligence reports on issuers to maintain security pools – leveraging quantitative insights as well as discretionary judgements on the issuers’ fundamentals.
Encouraged to develop over time new research on quantitative investment signals for secondary market continuous pricings, with a focus on equities. Write research reports on the signals and models. Automate the signal generation in order to be used in live-money products, after passing through a rigorous research approval process.
Report to the CIO of Equity, MASS and Indexing directly while collaborating with the team members, as well as other relevant teams (investments, trading, RQA, ops, tech, L&C etc.) both locally and across the globe. Ability to independently carry out product-driven investment research projects, under supervision of senior team members - which involves and not limited to, pricing stocks, producing new quantitative signals and writing research paperwork.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
Investment Research/Management - past experience in equity research or portfolio management across multiple asset classes, minimum 2 years of experience in a reputable institution. Past experience in fundamental equity pricing in investment banking ECM or IPO pricing in asset management is preferred. Strong process-driven mindset would be essential. Global markets experience would be a plus but not necessary. Experience related to equity IPOs in onshore China markets would be a strong plus.
Ability to work with numbers with attention to detail. Ability to communicate clearly with local and global teams during the discussions. Ability to synthesize own work into research reports as well as process documentations.
Self-driven and hard-working, ability to simultaneously drive multiple work streams from start to finish, while prioritizing critical business needs. Remain focused amid stressful market periods and despite working long hours.
Strong Excel and WIND skills essential while Python coding skill would be a strong plus. Advanced academic degrees preferred but not necessary. CFA, CIPM and other related professional qualifications preferred.
