Job description

About this role

At BlackRock, technology has always been at the core of what we do – and today, our technologists continue to shape the future of the industry with their innovative work. We are not only curious but also collaborative and eager to embrace experimentation as a means to solve complex challenges. Here you’ll find an environment that promotes working across teams, businesses, regions and specialties – and a firm committed to supporting your growth as a technologist through curated learning opportunities, tech-specific career paths, and access to experts and leaders around the world.

This role sits within Preqin, a part of BlackRock. As part of our engineering organization, you will build and evolve full stack capabilities that power our products and internal platforms, while also strengthening quality through modern test automation. You will partner closely with product, design, and engineering teams to ship user-facing features and reliable services at scale.

About Team:

We are a product engineering team building and operating greenfield capabilities across web applications, backend services, and data integrations. Alongside feature delivery, we are raising the bar on engineering excellence by embedding quality into the SDLC through automated testing (API, UI, and integration), scalable test frameworks, and CI/CD driven validation.

You will work in a collaborative environment where engineers own design, development, testing, and operational excellence. We value pragmatic problem solving, strong fundamentals, and the ability to move between building product features and building the automation that keeps them dependable.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Full Stack Feature Delivery
    • Design, build, and ship end-to-end features across UI, APIs, and services.
    • Collaborate with product and design to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable solutions.
  • Test Automation & Quality Engineering
    • Build and maintain automated test suites for API/UI/integration using Python and/or modern browser automation (e.g., Playwright).
    • Embed automated checks into CI/CD pipelines; improve coverage, reliability, and execution speed.
    • Create test data strategies, mocks/stubs, and environments to support repeatable, deterministic testing.
  • Engineering Excellence & Operations
    • Participate in code reviews, maintain high engineering standards, and contribute to shared libraries and tooling.
    • Monitor and troubleshoot production issues; improve observability and reduce defects through root-cause analysis.

What we are looking for:

  • 4+ years’ experience in software engineering (full stack preferred) with meaningful exposure to test automation.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience building test automation frameworks and suites (API, UI, and integration). Experience with Playwright (or equivalent browser automation tooling) is required.
  • Experience building backend services and REST APIs (e.g., FastAPI, Node.js/Express, or similar) and integrating with third-party systems.
  • Experience building modern web UIs (React preferred) and comfort with component-driven development and state management.
  • Strong understanding of testing practices: test pyramid, mocking/contract testing, test data management, flaky test mitigation, and quality gates.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and ability to write efficient queries; familiarity with NoSQL is a plus.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) and integrating automated tests into build and deployment workflows.
  • Experience with cloud environments (AWS or Azure) and containerization (Docker); Kubernetes experience is a plus.
  • Comfort with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing) and debugging across distributed systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management; able to work across teams and balance feature delivery with quality initiatives.

To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of benefits including a strong retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive healthcare, support for working parents and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.
