About this role
About this role
At BlackRock, technology powers how we serve clients at scale. Within Aladdin Engineering, the Client Experience Platform (CXP) builds the systems that support the full client lifecycle — from onboarding and inquiries to contracting, client workflows, and foundational data.
We are seeking a VP, Senior Test Engineer to strengthen our Budapest engineering hub, provide technical leadership in quality engineering, and take ownership of test strategy and delivery across several core CXP applications. This role is ideal for a hands-on quality engineering leader who can balance test architecture, automation, coaching, and high-impact delivery across globally distributed teams.
About the team
Client Experience Platform (CXP) is a large organisation within Aladdin Engineering, comprising UX Design, UX Engineering, RegTech, Client Insights, and Business Engineering.
Business Engineering develops the client lifecycle platforms used globally across BlackRock — covering inquiry management, contracting, onboarding workflows, CRM integrations, entity and product data, and more.
ECP sits within Business Engineering and owns several key Aladdin applications, including the Entity, Case, and Product platforms. The team emphasizes clean engineering, strong quality practices, modern Java/Spring services, and the growing use of AI-augmented SDLC tooling to improve reliability, speed, and confidence in delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for quality engineering within Budapest, mentoring and coaching engineers.
- Own the test strategy, automation architecture, and quality gates for core applications such as Case Management, APR, Tattoo, Product Master, Entity Master, CIM and related platforms.
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks covering API, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Stay hands-on by writing and reviewing production-quality test code, improving test reliability, execution speed, and signal quality.
- Partner closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Operations teams to shift quality left and embed testing early in the SDLC.
- Ensure operational excellence, including test stability, environment readiness, CI/CD integration, and clear quality metrics.
- Drive best practices in test data management, contract testing, non-functional testing, and defect prevention.
- Champion the adoption of AI-powered testing and engineering tools (Copilot, Windsurf, Spec-kit, Playwright) to improve coverage and reduce cycle time.
- Establish and lead focused quality initiatives or short innovation sprints that improve confidence and delivery velocity across CXP teams.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in software testing or quality engineering, with a strong focus on automation.
- Solid technical background in Java, Javascript RESTful services, and testing Spring-based backend systems.
- Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Selenium, REST-assured, TestNG, JUnit, or similar).
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, test execution in build systems, and test reporting.
- Experience testing distributed systems and complex enterprise platforms.
- Demonstrated leadership experience — mentoring engineers, influencing delivery, and driving quality outcomes across teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, quality-first mindset.
- Clear communicator able to collaborate effectively in a global, multi-team environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with performance and resilience testing (e.g. JMeter, Gatling).
- Familiarity with Kafka, Redis, or other distributed data technologies.
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native environments.
- Experience with observability and quality metrics (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
- Interest in AI-assisted testing, prompt engineering, or agentic QA tooling
