About this role
At BlackRock, technology powers how we serve clients at scale. Within Aladdin Engineering, the Client Experience Platform (CXP) builds the systems that support the full client lifecycle — from onboarding and inquiries to contracting, client workflows, and foundational data.
We are seeking a VP, Senior Software Engineer to strengthen our team and take deep technical ownership of several core CXP applications. This role is ideal for a hands‑on subject matter expert who can balance architecture, high‑quality coding, and impactful delivery across complex systems.
About the team
Client Experience Platform (CXP) is a large organisation within Aladdin Engineering, comprising of UX Design; UX Engineering; RegTech; Client Insights and Business Engineering
Business Engineering develops the client lifecycle platforms used globally across BlackRock — covering inquiry management, contracting, onboarding workflows, CRM integrations, entity and product data, and more.
Within Business Engineering, our team owns several key Aladdin applications, namely the Entity, Case and Product platforms, or ECP for short. ECP emphasises clean engineering, modern Java/Spring development, and the growing use of Augmented SDLC tooling to deliver impactful functionality, fast.‑augmented SDLC tooling to deliver impactful functionality, fast.
Key Responsibilities
Own larger functionality of Case Platform
Design and implement backend services using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and modern architectural patterns.
Stay hands-on by contributing production quality code, performing design reviews, and driving architectural decisions.‑on by contributing production‑quality code, performing design reviews, and driving architectural decisions.
Ensure reliability and operational excellence, including performance, maintainability, observability, and production readiness.
Partner with engineer teams in London and Budapest to align technical solutions with business needs and client experience goals.
Drive engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, modularisation, and continuous improvement.
Champion the adoption of AI powered engineering tools (Copilot, Windsurf, Speckit, Playwright) to improve delivery velocity and quality.
Qualifications
6+ years of experience in backend engineering with Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful architectures.
Great analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
Strong technical expertise in object-oriented design, distributed systems, and enterprise integration.‑oriented design, distributed systems, and enterprise integration.
Hands‑on experience with relational databases (SQL Server or MySQL), schema design, and performance tuning.
Excellent investigative, problem-solving and communication skills

An ability to translate real business problems into technical solutions
Ability and willingness to learn fast, multi-task, self-motivate and pick up new things easily.

Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships.
Nice to Have
Experience with Kafka, Redis, or other distributed data technologies.
Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native environments.
Familiarity with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
Background in workflow systems, enterprise platforms, or client lifecycle technology.
Interest in prompt engineering or agentic AI tooling.
