Blackstone Data Science Overview:

Blackstone Data Science (“BXDS”) is the firm-wide team that uses AI and statistical methods to make us better investors and business operators, the first such team in private equity. Integrated into our investing groups, we focus on answering mission-critical investment and business questions using data science, statistics, programming, and machine learning techniques. We use financial data, alternative datasets, and analytical methods to develop a perspective on our investments and accelerate growth at our portfolio companies, as well as help source new investment and partnership opportunities.

BXDS works hand-in-hand with Blackstone's deal teams and portfolio company management teams to underwrite investments, drive operating efficiencies, and identify new sources of value. We build scalable tools and technology that are integral to how we underwrite new deals and manage the portfolio, sitting at the intersection of quantitative and qualitative investment analysis with an explicit focus on projects that “move the needle.” You will have the opportunity to work directly with senior management at Blackstone as well as top executives from our portfolio companies. Program Description:

BXDS’s Analyst Program is a 2-year commitment that provides broad exposure to the Firm. The Program offers various technical training and professional development opportunities, the opportunity to network with professionals across all business units, and a robust mentorship experience to allow the participants to be fully immersed in the Blackstone culture. The first year of the Analyst Program is comprised of two half-year rotations within different BXDS verticals, providing an opportunity to gain exposure to different Blackstone business units and our Product team, as well as work closely with a variety of BXDS leaders and team members.

Note that successful candidates are not guaranteed employment for any specific period of time, and participation in the program does not guarantee future employment following the conclusion of the program.

Job Description:

Blackstone is looking to hire a passionate data scientist to be an integral member of BXDS. This individual will play a key role in accelerating the data-driven evolution within Blackstone by using advanced data science techniques to evaluate live private equity and real estate deals, work with our portfolio company management teams to drive business value, and curate novel insights using broad-ranging datasets.

This individual needs to be dedicated to the application of quantitative methods to drive investment analysis and business impact, and intellectually curious about solving real-world questions from data. This individual will be responsible for generating novel approaches to critical investment processes and driving innovation in private equity.

Successful candidates must be creative, strategic, highly motivated, and highly detail-oriented. They also must be effective communicators of technical outcomes to non-technical stakeholders, and create business-friendly outputs and visualizations.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in programming and querying languages (Python required, SQL preferred)

  • Experience in a data-driven professional setting

  • Foundation in statistics and mathematics

  • Comfortable working with and combining disparate and diverse data sources

  • Strong skills using analytical methodologies and desire to solve novel technical challenges

  • Experience balancing multiple projects and efficiently meeting goals in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent commercial-mindedness and understanding of what matters in a business / investment context

  • Independently drives key workstreams forward and collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience developing AI and generative AI applications preferred

  • No previous experience in the financial services industry is required

Expected annual base salary range:

$110,000 - $110,000

Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.

Additional compensation: Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with the advertised role.
