Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis of financial markets and big business, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.
We're seeking a seasoned, experienced journalist to elevate our coverage from Kuala Lumpur, telling Malaysia's story to a global audience with authority and edge.
Malaysia sits at a pivotal intersection of global supply chains, geopolitics and capital flows. It's a major exporter of semiconductors, palm oil and energy, a hub for Islamic finance and a beneficiary of manufacturing shifts reshaping Asia. Domestic politics remain dynamic, coalition governments complex and policy signals are closely scrutinized by investors. Corporate governance and corruption issues continue to reverberate. This environment demands a reporter with deep experience, sharp judgment and a proven ability to deliver.
Sourcing is the backbone of this role. We're looking for someone with a demonstrated track record of cultivating senior-level contacts and converting those relationships into consistent scoops and agenda-setting stories. You will be expected to bring, and sustain, a network across government, regulators, business tycoons, political insiders and enforcement agencies, and use those sources to break news that moves markets and shapes global understanding.
We also want a journalist who thinks creatively and expansively about Malaysia -- someone who can spot stories that are surprising, colorful, entertaining or striking, and frame them in a way that resonates among readers as far afield as New York to London and Hong Kong. That could mean exposing the politics behind a policy pivot, revealing tensions inside a conglomerate, spotlighting an unexpected consumer boom, or capturing the human drama behind economic change. The ability to identify what is uniquely Malaysian, and explain why it matters globally, is essential.
Handling breaking news is also an important part of this role and you're expected to be able to scan a steady flow of information, decide swiftly on market-moving news and deliver flash headlines and stories as quickly as possible on anything that could move the price of assets of interest to Bloomberg Terminal clients, be it currencies, stocks, bonds or commodities.
We are seeking a reporter who can operate independently from day one, exercise strong editorial judgment and thrive under deadline pressure. You will take ownership of the beat while contributing to everything from fast-breaking headlines to analytical follow-ups and deeply reported enterprise.
Equally important, Bloomberg is a collaborative newsroom. The ideal candidate is a genuine team player -- someone who works seamlessly with colleagues across beats and regions, shares information freely, supports broader coverage priorities and is willing to step in where needed.
An interest in multimedia storytelling, including TV appearances, radio, video or audio, will be a distinct advantage as our formats continue to evolve.
We’ll trust you to:
- Break news consistently through deep sourcing and disciplined reporting
- Develop and maintain senior-level contacts across markets, politics, finance and business
- Deliver fast, accurate copy under pressure
- Generate ambitious enterprise ideas and execute them rigorously
- Write with clarity and authority for a global readership
- Collaborate across teams and time zones, contributing beyond your immediate beat
- Use data, documents and interviews to produce exclusive, differentiated reporting
- Approach coverage with curiosity, competitiveness and sound judgment
You’ll need to have:
- At least 5 years of reporting experience, ideally covering Malaysia or comparable markets
- A proven track record of landing scoops and building influential source networks
- Excellent English writing and communication skills.
- Fluency in both written and spoken Malay
- Strong news instincts and the confidence to challenge official narratives
- The ability to thrive in a fast-moving, high-expectation newsroom
- A collaborative mindset and professional maturity
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
