We are looking for an experienced journalist to lead our international news coverage for Japanese-language Bloomberg News (JBN). As Managing Editor, you will oversee editors across Tokyo, London and North America, delivering global stories on a wide range of topics —- from geopolitics and markets to technology -— to Japanese readers.

As Managing Editor, you will oversee editors across Tokyo, London and North America, delivering global stories on a wide range of topics —- from geopolitics and markets to technology -— to Japanese readers.
Developments in the Middle East, as well as news surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump, are currently dominating the agenda for global investors and policymakers navigating an era of rising uncertainty. You will oversee our global news coverage in Japanese and determine the most effective ways to deliver it to our Terminal and digital audiences. Your teams will be responsible for selecting and translating English-language stories into Japanese, using machine translation where appropriate alongside careful manual editing to ensure content is accurate, engaging and tailored for Japanese readers. You will exercise strong news judgment and deliver content across multiple platforms, including the Terminal, mobile and digital.
Our coverage extends beyond traditional news stories. You will bring a multimedia mindset, identifying opportunities in data visualization, video and other formats that resonate with Japanese audiences, and ensuring these are effectively delivered. In addition to producing global stories in Japanese, your team members based in London and New York/Toronto are responsible for curating our Japanese-language website and Terminal Top pages during Tokyo overnight hours.
We’ll trust you to:
- Manage teams across Tokyo, London and North America focused on delivering global news to Japanese langauge readers
- Take a holistic approach to coverage, determining the best way to package and distribute content for Terminal and digital audiences
- Proactively incorporate AI into workflows to improve efficiency and support new product development
- Mentor and guide Team Leaders in developing their teams
- Communicate effectively with newsroom teams globally to ensure timely and accurate delivery of stories
You’ll need to have:
- At least 5 years of experience writing or editing news in Japanese in a real-time news environment, ideally within a bilingual setting
- Experience managing or leading editorial teams is strongly preferred
- Strong editing skills and a solid understanding of Japanese financial and business news, along with major global affairs
- A strong work ethic, collaborative mindset, and the ability to perform under pressure
- Proficiency in both written and spoken Japanese and English
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
