We are looking for someone to apply their deep avionics hardware technical expertise, natural leadership and organizational skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact the bold missions at Blue Origin. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

As the Senior Technical Avionics Project Manager within this innovative and diverse team in Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence, you will apply your avionics HW expertise, program management knowledge, and leadership skills to drive multiple avionics HW projects involving flight computing, embedded control, networking, and RF communication. You will guide project development schedules, work breakdown, and costs, and coordinate schedules to integrate avionics systems into multiple LP programs, including MK1 and Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD).

While this is a technical project management role, it also requires and provides the opportunity for, significant technical contribution, mentorship, and oversight. In addition, you will present status, risks, variances, and recovery plans to Engineering as well as LP leadership. We are looking for the right person to apply their technical experience, organizational expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to engineering to positively impact safe, reusable, and reliable human spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and managing avionics hardware development and new product introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Develop short and long-term avionics HW solutions for reusable spacecraft and spacecraft systems.
  • In this multi-faceted role, you will be responsible for leading a large, cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Owning and maintaining the schedules
  • Responsible for generating Gantt charts and other material needed to report out timeline and status to management.
  • Generating time/resource estimates for tasks
  • In partnership with the other functions, you’ll drive results that meet expectations in terms of budget, schedule, and delivery.
  • You will be expected to execute with some autonomy, guided by established policies and principles of Lean Product Development
  • Interface with internal/external customers to ensure organization resource allocation is made and project goals are accomplished.
  • Interface with internal technical and project teams to provide program status, risks, and technical deliverables.
  • Build and utilize in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Explain information; develop skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.
  • Displays strong ownership and accountability for the outcomes of avionics builds.
  • Establish requirements for the Avionics HW systems.
  • Work with suppliers for Avionics HW system procurement with support from Supply Chain.
  • Support Avionics HW system architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specifications, component selection, and roadmap development.
  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience of proven hardware systems development and project management experience.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Experience with, and understanding of, safety-critical systems development (aerospace, medical, automotive).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Aptitude for hands-on problem solving, with a passion for spacecraft systems.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture desired.
  • Strong technical background in command and data handling system hardware design.
  • Proven background leading the development and testing of electronic or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience using one or more of the following:
    • Project (Microsoft), Primavera P6 (Oracle), or other project management software
    • Jira for issue and task tracking
    • Agile Scrum process
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical and electronic assembly product lifecycle.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $143,990-$201,585

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.

Discretionary bonus: Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
