Test and Flight Operations: This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of instrumentation technicians you will support the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of liquid rocket engine test facilities for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of liquid rocket engine testing from test facility construction to operation and maintenance, reporting to the test stand integration engineering supervisor. You will demonstrate operational excellence in test stand procedure execution, reviewing, improving, and following test procedures and processes. Working with engineers on planning and executing assembly for complex instrumentation and control systems, you will fabricate, install, and checkout wiring harnesses and perform rocket engine test article integration and checkouts. We will rely on you to lead troubleshooting and maintenance of electronics, avionics systems, and electrical ground support equipment. You will safely work with and around hazardous chemicals and high pressure fluid systems. Finally, you will identify opportunities for continuous improvements to promote workplace safety, achieve cost-savings, and make test stand operations more streamlined and consistent.

This position is based out of Van Horn, TX and specifically supporting the BE-4 Test Facility. The candidate must be willing to work either first or second shift as needed. The position will be eligible for an 8x6 rotation schedule.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 0-3 years of experience in an electrical field
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time if needed to support other Blue Origin locations
  • Willingness to work 1st or 2nd shift as necessary
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 0-4 years’ experience in a launch vehicle operations or rocket engine test environment
  • Familiar with Data Acquisition Systems, instrumentation, and general electronics
  • Familiar with one or more rocket propellants, including Liquid Oxygen, Liquified Natural Gas, and other cryogenics
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware

Van Horn Specific information

Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employee’s additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance. Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee’s ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.
