The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems to address one of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space mobility. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, as a Senior Flight Software Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems, and play a key role in enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space.
As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing flight software for upcoming Blue Ring uncrewed spacecraft. You will collaborate with a diverse group of engineers to establish requirements, direct team tasks, and create and evaluate real-time software using C/C++ techniques. Your efforts will directly influence the effective development and operation of multiple satellites, and you will have the chance to guide and inspire fellow software team members.
To excel in this position, you should have attained a B.S. degree in computer, aerospace, or electrical engineering or a related field, or possess equivalent experience. Additionally, a minimum of 4 years of experience in embedded avionics software development and testing, ideally for aerospace or similar critical systems, is required. Strong communication skills, familiarity with taking software from concept to delivered product, and experience with Agile software development processes are also essential.

Qualifications:
- B.S. degree or equivalent in computer, aerospace, or electrical engineering or related field
- 4+ years of embedded software development and testing experience including multi-threaded programming and real-time systems, particularly in C/C++
- Demonstrated effective communication skills with program and executive leadership.
- Proven experience developing software to meet requirements
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and culture
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
- Ability to obtain a security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
- 6+ years of software development experience for real-time embedded systems This includes system design and analysis, requirement development, software implementation and verification, system integration, and qualification.
- Experience with spacecraft development and operations, such as proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution.
- Experience working on multi-component, complex avionics for spacecraft, aircraft, of similar systems.
- Experience in autonomy, sequencers, state machines, and/or fault management utilizing NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety/mission-critical software standards.
- Understanding of spacecraft operations, subsystem functions, and their interfaces and common interactions
- Experience with Embedded Linux or equivalent real time operating systems.
- Familiarity with embedded avionics networking, including OSI model, transport/data link layers, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP/SCTP, CCSDS or other Radio networking protocols
Active or ability to acquire/renew Top Secret (TS) / Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with polygraph
Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $129,690-$181,566
Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $141,480-$198,072
