As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers and process experts, you will be responsible for Materials & Processes tasks related to Metallic Additive Manufacturing (AM) for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of material characterization, supporting design for producibility, and process parameter development.
In this role, you will be working to develop, qualify, and provide sustained manufacturing support to additively manufactured spaceflight hardware. You will be actively involved in developing processes, parameters, requirements, and specifications governing the manufacturing of AM components. You will be responsible for leading test campaigns with the goal of developing mechanical and physical/thermal properties for materials manufactured internal to Blue Origin. You will collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and integration engineers to implement requirements in all phases of AM development, and you will be responsible for root cause and corrective action efforts involving AM builds. You will work alongside a focused team to optimize and process harden AM processes to increase throughput and decrease variability.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in materials, chemical, mechanical engineering or other relevant field and 5+ years relevant experience.
Principle investigator in process development and optimization of metallic AM processes.
Hands on experience measuring, analyzing, developing, characterizing Additive Manufacturing of nickel (e.g. Inconel), aluminum, and copper alloys.
Proven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and managing budgets.
Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components or materials.
Proven experience developing and executing experimental plans, analyzing data and concisely reporting the results.
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
Experience with powder metallurgy
Hands on skills with SEM, EDS, EBSD, IGF, pycnometer, PSD measurements, XRF, ICP, and OES
Experience running room temperature, cryogenic, and elevated temperature mechanical testing
Failure and Forensic Analysis experience
Experience with statistical analysis and preparation of design allowables
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00Other site ranges may differ
