This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems as the responsible engineer for the active thermal control system. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing our New Lunar Vehicle that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

In this position you will be responsible for the active thermal control system from conception, through internal or external development, testing, and integration with the vehicle. You will be part of the Thermal Hardware group, which works closely with the Thermal Analysis group within the Lunar Thermal integrated product team. Inputs to your work will include subsystem specifications, mission environments, and design and construction standards. Outputs will include component specifications, test plan/execution/reports, occasional thermal analysis, short/long term development plans, and make/buy decisions.

Contribute to a team of Thermal Engineers and Analysts simultaneously developing groundbreaking lunar vehicles. Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering or another technical field.

  • 8+ years of relevant Engineering experience

  • Solid understanding of thermal and fluid fundamentals

  • Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware

  • Demonstrated experience assembling and testing hardware (components and/or assemblies)

  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process

  • Familiarity of structural design fundamentals related to thermal/fluid hardware

  • Experience with CAD software; preferably Creo

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

  • Experience leading small teams and while coordinating with various other spacecraft divisions

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering

  • 12 years of relevant aerospace experience

  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc. and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters

  • Vendor technical management experience

  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation

  • Experience working on a verification program for a complex spaceflight or aviation system.

  • Experience maturing a design from requirements definition through hardware delivery

  • Experience with requirements and V&V tracking tools, preferably using JAMA.

  • Experience with NASA design and certifications standards for human spaceflight.

  • Experience with NASA lunar, deep space, or planetary missions.


Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80;CO applicants is $125,480.25-$175,672.35;WA applicants is $136,467.00-$191,053.80
