This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.As part of a hardworking team of materials engineers and technicians you will support our laboratory efforts to provide excellent research, development, and quality assurance testing for various spaceflight systems. You will need to be flexible and eager to learn. The materials that you will help develop will provide essential thermal protection for space vehicles. We seek people who are team players, passionate about space and possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve.
Your primary responsibility will be to support the efforts of our Thermal Protection Systems laboratory, which will include helping with sample preparation, operating instruments, and interacting with a wide variety of colleagues and customers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Read and interpret engineering drawings
- Create and execute industry standard material allowables testing
- Conduct quality assurance material testing on Process Verification parts
- Develop and execute test procedures related to integrated structural verification tests
- Operate or support specialized equipment such as large vacuum ovens, resin transfer systems, furnaces, inspection cameras, CNC router, saw, and water jet
- Develop and execute test procedures and test planes for sub-scale primary structures joints
- Order needed materials according to user needs and predetermined budget
Qualifications:
- Experience in executing test procedures and test plans
- 1-3 years experience in manufacturing or materials processing with hands-on operation of ovens, furnaces, or thermal cure systems
- Proven ability to execute multi-step process recipes including temperature ramps, hold times, and gas flow control; demonstrated attention to detail in following SOPs and documenting process parameters accurately
- Experience with process monitoring and basic troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment; ability to identify deviations from normal operation and escalate issues appropriately while maintaining production schedule
- Hands-on skills with measurement equipment including scales, calipers, durometers, and density sampling tools; ability to collect quality control data and maintain organized records in Excel or similar systems
- Comfortable working with condensers, gas delivery systems (nitrogen), and vacuum/pressure equipment; understanding of PPE requirements and safe handling of solvents and reactive materials
- Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate with engineering teams on process improvements and participate in DOE testing; willingness to work varied shifts as production demands require
- Experience in bonding and materials testing including surface prep, primer application, mixing and applying silicones/epoxies.
Desired:
- Experience with polymer/silicone materials or foam production
- Experience with Data Acquisition Systems
- Experience with composite prepreg materials and layup schedules
- Familiarity with ASTM standards and various material test protocols
- Aerospace Experience
- 5S Experience
- Experience working in an AS9100 environment
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $36.60 - $51.23Other site ranges may differ

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
